$100 for 50Mbps are they nuts? Cablevision has a plan in my area called Optimum Ultra that gives you 101Mbps for just $105.

@snitch: Cablevision is my ISP. I pay $44.95 a month for downloads of up to 15mbps. Note the "up to" part. What I actually get is downloads of about 20-30 kbps. I tried to watch a YouTube video yesterday: the vid was 54 seconds long and Cablevision stopped to buffer 19 times in those 54 seconds.

Hulu? Forgetaboutit! You get 1-2 seconds of video then the image freezes for 5-20 seconds while it buffers.

FiOS can't get to my neighborhood fast enough. I'd sell my left spleen to get away from Cablevision.

@Ssscorpion: Trust me you don't want fios, it's $59.99 for about a similar plan of what you're already getting and that's not including a $10 extra they charge you just for tax. They run the fiber optics to a box outside your house and then run a coaxial cable just like Cablevision does to a modem, i gave them a try for 30 days and them ask them to come and pick up all their crap.

@snitch: I was ready to switch from Cable to FiOs in North Jersey. I am paying 100/month for 7 Mbs down and about 5 Mbs upload which includes my voice and TV ("triple play.") Yes, it fluctuates during the day, but usually not by much. FiOs was basically going to match the price and beat the speed, but year 2 was going to be $170/month. Too much so I am staying with cable. Also, FiOs said they supply the modem/router and it does not have DMZ capabilities, which I need.

Seems like Verizon is getting paid regardless since DSLExtreme has to pay verizon to lease the Fiber lines anyway so Verizon could prolly give a shit.
