    I don't think Apple cares about syncing per se as much as crushing Palm by making it look small and the Pre unattractive by tossing it around like a mouse. Apple's the cat, right? #palmpreitunes

    The irony for me is that one of the primary reasons I got the Pre over the iPhone was specifically that I don't, won't use iTunes. #palmpreitunes

    If i were apple i'd allow it, and every time the user plugs in a pre they have to sit through an iPhone ad and perhaps get a special deal offer on one. #palmpreitunes

    ... So don't update your iTunes, people. I mean, the same could be said about the jailbreakers and Apple's incessant patching, which keeps me stuck on 8.0.2 - dickish indeed. But 8 is fine, since it's just getting more and more bloated anyways. #palmpreitunes

    i disagree, john. i see it as Palm maintaining a service Pre users expected when they purchased their phones. that it would sync with iTunes. as a Pre user i would be sad if Palm gave up on me. like when my parents left me at the Grand Canyon when i was a boy with a funny mullet wig infused into my scalp.

    @Nick: Anyone who purchased the Pre thinking the iTunes syncing would be permanent is delusional. Seriously, it was announced as a backdoor hack, anyone with half a brain would have questioned this feature. #palmpreitunes

    I still fail to see how allowing other companies to use iTunes to sync their devices undermines Apple's iPod market. When I look at a phone or MP3 player I could care less how I sync it. I care about the device. #palmpreitunes

    I said it a hundred times and I will have to say it again until the Palm people who read this article puts it in their heads:

    Palm has no business to break their USB agreement and go after iTunes. Instead, they should have sent 1-2 engineers at the [www.getsongbird.com] team in downtown San Francisco to finish up that app. Not only they would help themselves this way, the right way, but they could even work with Google and other companies to foot the bill for that project. I mean, I am sure Android needs an iTunes-wannabe too, it's not just Palm that needs it, right?

    In other words, get an app that's 80% there, and finish it up, and you don't need iTunes anymore. With the Amazon addon/plugin for Songbird, you won't even need the iTunes Store either!

    I disagree with the article about using doubleTwist, since that's not open source, and it's not 100% legal either (AFAIK). It would be a mistake to go with that solution instead of an OPEN solution like Songbird is, that has more features and abilities to grow than doubleTwist, and a solution that would help other platforms too.

    Instead, we get a cat and mouse game, which is ridiculous, and it only empowers Apple, not Palm.

    @otko: No, I carry a Pre at least a few days a week and I like it a lot. The last post was about Palm's prospects as a company, and this one was about their (and Apple's) weird obsession with iTunes syncing. #palmpreitunes

    @John Herrman: I think Palms obsession with iTunes syncing stems directly from Rubinsteins involvement with the iPod. I also think the only thing keeping Apple from really doing something about it is also a direct result of Rubinsteins work at Apple. Anyone else trying to get away with it would probably have already been dealt with.

    Far as I'm concerned, the reason you'd get something other than an iPhone is to get RID of iTunes. iThink.

    Oh, yeah, and because the Droid might be better. Certainly is if you're looking for something to replace your GPS. #palmpreitunes

    @stryder100: My work pays for Sprint, so I can either get a Sprint phone OR pay the monthly charge for an iPhone. As much as I would like an iPhone, $1200 additional a year isn't in the cards. I have a Pre, enjoy the iTunes syncing, but dont count on it.

    Androids currently also not on Sprint, but damn, not impressed (yet). Haven't tried the new releases, looking forward to 2.0, but nothing Android related has me pining.

    Happy with my Pre, happy it syncs - I consider it a bonus, not a feature. #palmpreitunes

    Palm should just write some software. Could you imagine if the Sony Clie was designed to sync with Palm Desktop. Palm would have been annoyed (even though the Clie used Palm OS). #palmpreitunes

    honestly, for #4, when I was younger I used to fall asleep with my head on my dogs stomach. the motion of her breathing always put me to sleep, she was nice and soft and warm. I always used to say that a pillow that mimicked using a dog as a pillow would be the greatest thing ever. Miss you Fang, you were the greatest dog ever. #dumb

    Keeping glass bulbs in a wheel safe from shattering is a challenging problem, but it's not insurmountable.
