Palm Pre should just sync with this and give Apple the big F-U.

So, I realize that I'm probably in the minority by saying this, but I *love* iTunes...

BUT... this whole DoubleTwist with access to the Amazon MP3 store thing is AMAZING. Actually having a viable alternative to iTunes with access to a music store that doesn't suck is GREAT. My only concern is... would Amazon send a cease and desist to DVD Jon? Did he somehow code the store into his software or are they working together? I hope that this continues to grow from this point :)

The big problem with doubletwist (at least when I checked it out before) was that besides lack of iPhone support, it *REQUIRED* an account with their website for social networking features. I don't want or need to have an account with the website to use music and media management software. This is a deal breaker even if they do finally get iPhone support.

If you have your iTunes Music stored anywhere but the default location you're SOL since there is no doubleTwist preference to send their items into your iTunes Library for syncing with the iPhone.

On the plus side: the Amazon classical music library seems to be far more extensive than the iTunes Store offerings.

*begin rant* I recently just got the iphone so I've only now really had to deal with the big piece of doo doo that is itunes.

Why does the software assume that I'm some sort of newb? Who thought it was a good idea that you should only be able to import and delete songs from your iphone only by deleting it from itunes? I have found myself going through many a headache using this software that was clearly design for and by chimps...

Please apple, trust that some of your users have a minimal level of computer knowledge and allow us to drag and drop folders/files directly, goddamnit! Thank you for reading. *end rant*

@Carnality666: Ummm... you know you can choose not to sync the whole library and just sync certain playlists, right? The creation of the playlists is as close to drag-and-drop as you get.

Now Palm won't have to go back and forth with Apple locking and unlocking Pre syncing. And btw, does anyone under the age of 40 pays for music anyway?

    @cygnusx8: Um, yes.

I've abandoned torrents and other P2P methods for obtaining music. Buying an album on Amazon MP3 for less than $8 is completely affordable. Heck, often iTunes has inexpensive prices and I often buy brand new CDs from best Buy since they're less than $10 the first week. I buy a lot of stuff on vinyl and most come with an online code to download a digital version at no extra charge.

More often than not though, I buy from the artist's website or at the merch table at a show. It's more beneficial to them.

It just makes no sense scouring the ever-closing torrent sites to find an album I want, then waiting sometimes an hour or so to download if there aren't a lot of seeders. I'd rather jump on Amazon MP3, search, click "buy" and have my songs in a total of 3 minutes. Plus, I don't have to worry about my ISP flipping out about anything.

I use iTunes for music management, but I often buy from Amazon because it's cheaper, then copy into iTunes. I'll buy from iTunes if what I want isn't at Amazon. I welcome some competition here.

Sadly, we Canuckistani's are left out still. I initially avoided iTMS for the DRM and now just because I refuse to subject my computer to iTunes and Quicktime. Amazon.com would be a great replacement, but they don't offer MP3 downloads without a US credit card and billing address.

Won't this make it difficult to switch between iTunes to this? I have an iPhone, and I am wondering how syncing will be effected. I have plenty of apps, songs, and videos in iTunes that I want to ensure can still transfer to my phone. Anyone know if an auto-transfer of purchases to iTunes from doubleTwist is possible?

@Anonymoose: Agreed. While it makes sense for iPods, iPhones are almost universally managed from iTunes (as I understand it). Everything from app management to software updates.

If you've got a Nano, enjoy DVD Jon's liberation crusade. If you're sporting an iPhone, though, I'd stick to home base.

@nutbastard: Right... But now we're attempting to read between the lines, when there may not actually be any lines to read between.

Itunes already supports several other media players besides iPods last I knew. But selling a product that defeats... Well, that strikes me as illegal. Whether we like the law or not.

But, then again the city losing millions of dollars of ad revenue from Apple may certainly have something to do with it. However I personally find his placement of advertisement distasteful. It's a bit like wandering into your competitor's store wearing your Best Buy shirt and talking to the customers there.
