@baltwade: I think it's simple: Copy Protection. Fair use allows you to convert formats so long as there's no restrictions baked into them, but as most DVD's come with their own digital protections, it's illegal to circumvent it. Damn sonsabitches!
Please hire better web programmers. You may hire me if you would like, it's up to you, but the ridiculous load time and script errors (HTF do you get javascript wrong?) are outrageous.
Other than this, I love Gawker sites, but my pleas and comments on your Bug section often go unnoticed.
@Shamoononon thanks Rocephin: Oh, and am I the only one that gets a big empty white screen when I click on the "Replies" link in my Profile? Hell, I don't even know what that link does, since it gives me a blank page on any browser I try to load it in.
@triggerx: Yeah that happens occasionally to me, too. I clear cache and delete temp internet files and reboot, then the reply button works. I also have been having a hell of a time logging in to edit my profile. I can log in to post comments, but when I click my own profile to check messages or fiddle with my screenname it says I am not logged in! I've tried it on a few different machines in different browsers, and it is very frustrating.
@Shamoononon thanks Rocephin: Sadly, as preview slinks away into the past, fewer remember it and fewer are bothered by its absence.
It's as if the Giz commenting community has been relocated to the Axiom spaceship in Wall-E, misses the sun, but after a few generations, the pining for natural light wanes and the concept of sun becomes an ever dimming abstraction.
Some remember preview and fight the good fight, but I fear in another generation or two, most people will simply accept the new normal, a world without preview.
Although on the bright side, the lack of preview will also likely cause people's eyes to migrate to the same side of their face, like those deep sea fluke. So it's not all bad.
@Shamoononon thanks Rocephin: What a bunch of winers. How much did you pay for this site? And all you do is bitch, bitch, bitch. Oh, there is no previous. Oh, there is no edit button. Oh, how about emailing replies. Babies!
Back when I was a kid we didn't have no stinkin' web sites with cool gadgets and witty commenters - and we liked it.
(Yes, as usual, I have written a comment that was complete sarcasm and really served no purpose what-so-ever. Have a lovely day.)
@Monty: This site needs some old-school skee-ball action if you ask me. A nice skee-ball button so that you can play skee-ball while waiting for people to reply to your witty remarks. Without that option I feel empty and alone on this site at times.

MPAA tried to stop VCR when they first came out and lost.
RIAA sued to stop CD ripping and lost.
How in the hell did the MPAA win at stopping DVD ripping?
