Less expected: A cheaper E Series Walkman will arrive at the same time.

The S Series also has a recordable FM tuner (with 30 presets), and a Lithium Ion battery rated for a 42 hours of audio, or 6.4 hours of video playback. That's pretty decent...unless you use the built-in stereo speakers. Rocking out loud will drop music listening to 17 hours, and video playback to 5 hours.

As expected, format support includes JPG photos, MP3/WMA/AAC audio and H264/MP4/WMV 30fps video.

Though the E-Series has a similar design, it ditches speakers, and the screen has been shrunk to 2-inches (still QVGA). It also has most of the same file format support but H.264 is noticeably absent. It does do 30fps WMV video, though. How much will these cut backs save you? The 8GB model is $80; the 16GB is $100.

Both Walkmans have a variety of color options, and support iTunes 8.1 and Windows Media player. [PR Newswire]

<![CDATA[Nokia E71 and E66 Phones Stuffed with Two Cameras, Wi-Fi, GPS and More]]> The E66 and E71, two Nokia E-Series cellphones in last week's rumor mill, are now official. Up top is the E71, a slick QWERTY phone that's a lot less chunky than its predecessor, the E61. It comes equipped with a 3.2MP camera in the back, a front cam for video calls, Wi-Fi and GPS, just like the E66 down below.

The E66 is a good looking slider with a neat feature: it switches between portrait and landscape mode when it's turned. (Sound familiar?)

In addition to the features already mentioned, both phones support two home screens for business and personal modes, have 110MB internal memory and a microSD slot that can handle an 8GB card. They'll be available next month for GSM networks, both around $500. [Nokia]

Email made easy: Nokia unveils two new Nokia Eseries devices optimized for personal and professional email

Slim, stylish Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 multimedia computers offer easy access to range of email solutions, including Microsoft Exchange

London, UK - Nokia introduced today the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 – the latest email-optimized devices from the Nokia Eseries product range. The sleek Nokia E71 with full QWERTY keyboard and the stylish, slide-to-open Nokia E66 easily mobilize a broad range of personal or professional messaging needs, including Microsoft Exchange, the world’s most widely adopted corporate email solution. Both devices are expected to begin shipping in key markets in July. The Nokia E71 and the Nokia E66 are expected to retail at EUR 350, before applicable taxes and subsidies.

“The Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 were designed for people who lead a mobile lifestyle and want quick and easy access to their personal and work email. With both of these devices, we have responded to consumer feedback by making calendar and contacts available at the touch of a button,” said Søren Petersen, Senior Vice President, Devices, Nokia. “Equally important, people want well-crafted devices that are as beautiful to use as they are to behold. Stainless steel was chosen as the core material for these devices, giving them additional strength and a touch of class. Furthermore, the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 offer all the latest multimedia features that people desire.”

Easy, one-touch access to email

The Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 come fully equipped for easy-to-install and easy-to-use professional and personal email. People who use Microsoft Exchange at work can access their email using the Mail for Exchange mobile email client, which comes pre-loaded with the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66. With these Nokia Eseries devices, people can get reliable real-time access to their email, calendar, contacts and tasks, as well as download attachments like Word, Excel, Powerpoint or PDF files directly to their devices.

The Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 support email accounts from more than a thousand internet service providers (ISPs) around the world, as well as Gmail, Yahoo! mail and Hotmail. Additionally, the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 support the Nokia Intellisync Wireless Email solution as well as third party email solutions like System Seven and Visto Mobile. Both devices come with the new switch mode that allows people easily to switch between personal and work home screens.

"With mobile email penetration and access to wireless applications growing at a rapid rate, Nokia is well positioned with its extensive lineup of market leading handsets to address the needs of consumers, high-end users and mobile professionals alike," said Andrew Brown, Director, Wireless Enterprise Strategies Global Wireless Practice, Strategy Analytics.

Sophisticated tool, premium design inside and out

With a stainless steel case, etched graphics and available in two colors - grey steel or white steel – the Nokia E71 bears the hallmarks of Nokia quality and craftsmanship. The cool metallic finish is complemented by the bright colour display, which showcases the Nokia E71 device’s brilliantly simple user interface. Designed for both one-handed and two-handed use, the Nokia E71 pays special attention to ergonomics, as evidenced by its narrow shape and specially designed keypad.

The Nokia E66 offers a premium look and feel with its stainless steel accents and smooth sliding design. Sharing the same key features as the Nokia E71, including an enhanced calendar, contacts and customizable home screen modes, the Nokia E66 offers unique additions, like an orientation sensor that automatically optimizes itself for full screen viewing or silences the ringer when the device is turned over. Available in grey steel or white steel version, the Nokia E66 leaves a lasting impression as a sophisticated business tool in a distinct design.

Always Entertaining

In addition to email and personal information management, the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 support the latest Ovi services including maps, music and media sharing that power users expect from their device. This includes fast and seamless browsing with HSDPA, wireless LAN and 3G connectivity, Assisted GPS (A-GPS) and Nokia Maps for navigation, a music player with support for up to 8 GB expandable memory and a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera.

Built for Businesses of all sizes

In addition to serving entrepreneurs and smaller businesses, the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 also come fully equipped with a robust suite of enterprise grade features, including a built-in encryption functionality for both the device memory and for the memory card. Both Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 also include integrated mobile VPN support that gives mobile professionals access to their company intranet, and device lock and wipe to protect corporate information. Incorporating underlying technologies that allow IT departments to effectively manage security settings, corporate applications, data and advanced voice features, the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 expand the range of Nokia Eseries devices that support enterprise-specific deployment.

<![CDATA[Nokia Adding Devicescape Wi-Fi Utility To Make Connecting Easier]]> It can be a pain on the ass entering in Wi-Fi WEP, WPA and WPA2 passwords even on QWERTY phones, so Nokia is making things easy on their E and N-series phone users by teaming up with Devicescape. The latter's software lets you enter in connectivity information on your computer, which then gets housed on your Nokia for hassle-free Wi-Fi authentication later—No typing needed. Although Devicescape makes things slightly easier now for a cellphone with a keyboard, it could possibly enable PMPs and other devices without a keyboard to be able to connect to Wi-Fi. Stylish smartphone performer comes equipped with essentials for business and private life

London, UK - Nokia today bolstered its Nokia Eseries portfolio of business devices with the introduction of the new Nokia E51 device. The slim and elegant Nokia E51 adds greater simplicity, faster access and tighter integration to key applications, while maintaining the smartphone capabilities and stylish design that customers have come to expect in a Nokia Eseries device. An all-round device, Nokia E51 is ideal for business professionals who require reliable, real-time access to business and people, need to manage time effectively and value a single device that is easy to set up, maintain and use. Nokia E51 users with Nokia mobility solutions can experience mobile telephony, mobile email and messaging, office phone functionality, and cost savings - with the convenience of one phone number, one voice mailbox, one dial plan - in a single device.

"Business users increasingly need one device that they can count on to work productively and which offers them the level of efficiency that brings more freedom and balance to their personal lives," said Antti Vasara, senior vice president, Mobile Devices Unit, Enterprise Solutions, Nokia. "With the new Nokia E51 device, we are responding to this need with a business smartphone that combines the latest advances in business mobility and a classic, stainless steel design, at a price that makes it perfect for company-wide deployments."

While expanding the rich functionality that business users require, Nokia continues to simplify the use of its business devices via the following:

- A home screen including user-selected icons to the most used applications
- One Touch keys with one-click access to key functionalities including email, contacts, calendar and the home screen
- Set-up wizards offering step-by-step guidance for setting up email accounts, configuring Internet calling and accessing wireless local area networks

Nokia E51 also extends business value to end users and businesses through its ability to integrate tightly with corporate telephony systems (PBX) through Nokia Mobile Unified Communications solutions such as Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Cisco and Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel. These solutions deliver desk phone calling features - such as extension dialing, hold, transfer and conferencing - to a single, mobile device. Companies can also reduce their international call charges by routing the call over the corporate IP networks.

"Nokia and BT share a vision that business mobility adoption will thrive when our collective customers and their respective end users, derive productivity improvements from mobile enabled applications," said Rakesh Mahajan, global director of mobility at BT Global Services. "For the BT Corporate Fusion solution, we chose the Nokia E51 for its classic Nokia business smartphone features and design, its ease of integration into our solution, and its affordability, making it more appealing for widespread use within companies of all sizes."

Nokia E51 is also ideal for any user wishing to leverage broadband connections to access mobile Internet telephony from homes and hotspots. For example, Gizmo, a Voice over IP (VoIP) application, is available for Nokia Eseries customers free of charge, enabling users to make and receive inexpensive calls from their mobile phones and chat or talk with friends who are online. Gizmo application is available to Nokia Eseries customers through the Nokia Download! application on their mobile phone.

<![CDATA[Itty Bitty Teeny Weeny Nokia E50]]> nokiae50.jpg

Nokia announced the newest addition to their Eseries of business phones today, the Nokia E50. Eight reasons it should be on your list:

  1. It's small, and we don't just mean "small for a business phone"—it measures in at 113mm x 43.5 mm x 15.5 mm, for a total of 70 cc, and weighs just 104g with the battery inserted.
  2. It supports popular corporate mobile email packages: Intellisync Wireless Email by Nokia, BlackBerry Connect, Visto Mobile, Altexia, and Microsoft ActiveSync.
  3. It's quad-band (EGSM 850/900/1800/1900), so you can take it on all your overseas business trips (well, except to Japan) and not have to worry.
  4. GPRS/EDGE and it works as a modem, so you can download and upload large files without any problems.

  • Six hours of talk time, a lot for such a little package. And small phones equal small batteries, so you could easily fit both the E50 and a spare battery in your pants pocket with room to spare.
  • The ability to use two numbers on the same phone, so if you had one each for work and play before, you can now consolidate and have just the one device.
  • It runs S60 3rd Edition on Symbian OS 9, a stable environment with many third party applications.
  • The 1.3 megapixel camera is an optional feature, so you can have the great smartphone anyway and choose to not have the camera in case your job involves lots of visits to places where they aren't allowed, or if you're one of those people who just don't see the need of having one.
  • Okay, so the E50 is admittedly the ugliest device to come out of Espoo in a long time, but it is very small and it does get the job done. If you think size and performance are more important than appearance, this might just be the phone for you.

    <![CDATA[Nokia E Series Ships Later This Month]]> nokia_e61_cell_phone_fcc.jpg

Despite PC Magazine's report that the E Series phones will be out later this month, Nokia tells us that no US release date has been decided—the dates are just for Europe. "It will be a couple months before we have any US market specific information (pricing, availability, carrier details, etc)."

So if you're dying to have an E61 or E62 from your provider anytime soon, sorry. Either import an unlocked unit from one of the European countries lucky to get it or sit back and wait some more.
