    Earth Hour: Turn Off Your Gadgets and Do Things in the Dark

    Earth Hour Wants All The Lights Off, But We Want Them On

    They should have taken multiple shots of the city during the Earth Hour to see if any of the lights in the background got turned off when people were like "WTF?" and then Googled what was going on and then turned off their lights.

    It's kind of disheartening though that none of the houses appear to have joined in. At least the casinos would have had a reason to keep their lights on because those lights help draw customers into their casinos.

    I wonder how much energy they saved with the warm up "costs" that many of the metal lamps have, after needing to restart them after they cooled to room temp.

    They might get more participation if the whole movement hadn't been hijacked by lunatics.

    I'm in favor of being more eco-friendly. However, I don't believe in man-made global-warming, and I certainly don't support most of the ideas being floated around for the Copenhagen conference.

    @sickpup: Why do people have to be like that? You know that turning the lights off is good for the environment whether you believe in anthropogenic climate change or not, so why not do it? Besides, turning off your lights is only going to decrease your power bill. OK, maybe the amount it affects your power bill is minimal, but it is in the negative direction, nonetheless. Even then, why not just do it for other reasons, such as it being the one chance that some people would be able to see stars from their house? If people actually participated, wouldn't it have been wild to be able to go star gazing in the middle of the city?

    I love how people who don't care about the environment like to pretentiously tell everyone how they are better than the pretentious people who do care about the environment. Why is liking the planet to not suck a bad thing?

    Meh we have it still going and i didnt do nothing bout it except sitting at home with 5-6 lights open and my computer roaring away next to my old time screen and all. I really can give a shit bout the earth cause face it:

    Earth time is just an excuse to delay the inevitable destruction of earth. I say live how we were before and just let it happen. I would rather it to happen now instead of later cause i really dont want to give life to a generation with no hope.

    these earth hour deals seem like an empty gesture created by the pretentious folks that have a brief moment of guilt as mother earth has mascara running down her face while their SUV's roam the earth.

    then they have an earth hour and can go another year drinking the lattes as smug as possible and feel OK with it.

    @switchblade saints:

    right now there is a truck in front of my house. a special truck.

    it's turning the remains of the two trees in my front yard into wood chips. before that there was a bucket truck here that was used along with chainsaws to cut down the two trees in my front yard. all these things were and are burning fossil fuels. for no other reason except to please me, and facilitate my plan to make my front yard more usable.

    and after all this is done. i will pay the man for doing this, and know that i have stimulated the economy, and helped an independent businessman.

    then when 8:30 pm CST comes about i will turn on all the lights in my house, fire up my grill, my stereo, open all the windows and turn the furnace on, and bask in the glow of a day well spent.

    @Matt0505: a yaris?

    lets see...

    1. mine the raw ore metals that compose the hybrid battery in Japan...

    2. fly that to a smelting facility in america...

    3. fly those bars to BACK japan to be inonized tnen turned into batteries...

    4. transport them to the toyota manufacturing center...

    5. transport that "hybrid" to stupid american consumers...

    6. then, you'll STILL be using gas, granted, half of your normal amount, but you still have to drill and seperate the crude oil.

    or...

    1. toyota makes a car

    2. toyota transfers the car

    3. see the prius' step 6, only you're using the normal amount.

    tl;dr: prius' suck more than normal cars at being "green". both are bad choices. go ride an effing bike.
