Seriously, scanning on-screen barcodes is very cool, I can't wait for it at the airport, but don't have my breath held for support across the country for a while, let alone all of their shops and kiosks. More than a year ago someone gifted me a $100 personalized Starbucks card with the promise that if I registered it I would get access to wifi with the purchase of a drink, and when I purchased my first drink, the barista confirmed this. So I registered it, and proceeded to use it first at a standalone Starbucks that apparently had no wifi, then found out that airports were exempt, a day later that casinos were exempt, and ones in Supermarkets as well as on turnpikes. Wow. So here I sit with $65 on this card, as I'm not a fan of coffee drinks. I'd love to think that I'd be able to use this app, but don't think I'm visiting Seattle anytime soon, and don't have my fingers crossed that this tech will make it into my store.
.... and seriously? A Quad Grande Carmel Machiatto? No extra caramel and/or hwipped cream? Shame on you.
@zmnatz: lol, you may kid, but I don't (with respect to this). If you don't have an iPhone, don't whine about the breadth of apps coming out on it and why you can't have them on your phone. Come to terms with it: the iPhone is vacuuming up developers. Good for us. Bad for everyone else. Stick to your email newdeepdan. That's what your phone is known for, right?
@TheSonOfKrypton: Good point. I never even thought about that. Me being a "developer," if there's an app that doesn't exist, I tend to see if I can do it. Maybe we should start pushing more people back to webapps. Those pretty much work for every phone with a javascript enabled web browser (does BB have that?)
@TheSonOfKrypton: I think the louder the blackberry whiners get, the more developers might say "hey there could be another app market I could develop for." There are a lot of people in this country who own blackberries by no choice of their own, they are given them by their employers.
@jeepingeek: And then, you know what will happen? They'll make an app for the Blackberry, and will come to find out (like many other developers have) that they literally get 100x more (or even more, there was an story about this in the recent past, look it up) app downloads on iPhone than on Android or Blackberry and you know what? Money talks. What do you think will happen with subsequent development ventures on their part? Think they'll partake in spending resources on a Blackberry app? I rest my case.
My neighbor owns a few cranes and backhoes for his business, and he surfs the web for new cranes/vehicles. I can picture his little 4 year old daughter buying something, b/c she likes cranes and trucks.
@3o01: Get back to us when your hair has all but fallen out, your gut suddenly works perfect as a pillow and your back hurts when you get out of bed in the morning.
There is a business in Germany that lets you use diggers, graders all kinds of big machines. Wives/gf's typically give a gift of x many hours of earthmoving to their partner. I'm in the US but I would love to have some fun at that place....
@morbo: I don't know what part of America you live in, but if you go down to your local Sunbelt you can rent all the diggers, graders, and big machines your heart desires. [www.sunbeltrentals.com]
@Drew420: I think he's referring not just to the ability to rent it, but a park to use it in - I've seen this on the 'net. It's like a big dirt playground with a bunch of construction machines. It's actually a cool idea.
