Amazing what a bunch of lazy whiners this board is full of.
This is the exact attitude that's sending America down the crapper. "I want it all, but don't ask me to actually EARN it."
God forbid anyone actually WORK hard for a living. To compare this to slavery is beyond moronic.
@NoelZavala: You're the first one to make that comparison. And nobody is saying that they shouldn't have to work for a living, just that these rules are seemingly arbitrary and beyond asinine.
Good job Canon now im going to go outside with my printer and throw it in the garbage i wont evan give the shit away and that point and shoot i was going to buy from you?Kiss that cash goodbye and just wait till they hear about my ad campain.
@donkill: Throwing the printer away at this point isn't going to affect them in any way, it's just wasteful wait 'till the ink runs out and then take it apart, there's all sorts of neat motors and controllers inside the typical printer.
Well... I sure hope they appreciate the productivity gains they find when everyone gets stressed out and run ragged, then gets sick and has to take time off... idiots.
Considering that a manager at one point put an employee in a wrestling hold to demonstrate some point about aggression and managed to kill the employee, I think bosses in Japan think they can do whatever they want to their workers. (Hi, Mike!)
This is not that bad. As a chef I stand, as well as my cooks, at times for 11 hours or more in a hot humid environment. For those of you who have worked in the food service industry you know that breaks are often not given out, so its not uncommon for someone to work a 10 to 12 shift without ever having sat down. I don't feel bad for these guys, I bet their backs feel a lot better than if they had to sit in one spot all day.
@Michai: A similar point has been made earlier in this thread, but you're MOVING. Constantly. Your eyes are here, and there, as are your feet, and the same is true for your cooks. Your job is on the move. I have worked retail where I could only stand, and busy days, where I was constantly running around, were far preferable to the slow ones. Just standing there, writing/etc is a form of hell.
When you're working on a computer and because of the way you hunch your body the support of a chair beneath you is invaluable. Most people have a certain way they stand and put pressure on certain parts of their bodies, and doing that all day does not feel good, or active, or help your back. Quite the opposite. Repeat, HELL.
In short: Don't make this out to be a laziness versus activity thing, it's not at all. Working at a desk writing/typing/on the phone while standing perfectly still is not good for your body the way being in constant motion is.
BFD, has no one else waited tables in a restaurant? I routinely work shifts where I walk around rapidly for 10 hours straight with no break. And guess what? It IS good for employee camaraderie.
@Michael Casp: These people are standing and likely stooping to use computers for long periods of time. Walking to wait tables is different as you aren't trying to type on a computer or manipulate stuff on a desk which may or may not be the optimum height for you to work with equipment placed on it.
Note that all of these people are different heights, but the desks are all the same. This is just unnecessarily uncomfortable and inhumane.
There's a huge difference between subjecting someone to something which is unnecessary and requiring movement because the job can't be accomplished any other way. Also, frankly, was your speed measured while working as wait staff? Is that reasonable?
@CAPS: Normally I don't quote bands but I think Mudvayne got it right, "When the whole damn world is dead, there's your f*cking peace"
Seriously, as long as there are humans there will be conflict and disdain. There could only be two people left on the whole planet, I guarantee you they'll fight, and when one of them dies the other will turn on himself and start eating away from the inside.
@dosdelon: Agreed. I think a requirement for all bosses is that they not only be able to do what you do but also, do it. Because then they will know the effects of their decisions.
@pevans34: You're forgetting the type of person who is typically in management, someone with no skill or talent whatsoever but the right social connections to get the job.
