Damn Giz squirrels ate my other post. Energy speakers are great. I have had the e:XL series for many years. They sound as good or better than speakers costing twice as much. They used to be a Canadian company, but I think they got swallowed up by someone else a couple years ago, at least that is the impression I got the last time I was at CES.

These sorts of roundups are a nice way to filter brands and models. But otherwise somewhat useless.

Speakers, unlike any other type of audio equipment, is highly subjective. Everyone hears things differently, and has different preferences. And every speaker sounds different.

And there are lots of different technological solutions to speakers. Meaning there currently is no single right way to create a speaker.

Point is, everyone should listen to speakers from several different brands before buying them.

Calm down people. Their $1000 "penny pincher" class winner (SVSound SBS/SCS-01 System) can easily be found for $600, and they had some pretty nice things to say about the "Budweiser class" Polk speakers, too.

Boo!! and Fail!!! That was not the best, not every category, and ....bias? Where were the comparisons, and further more, where were the FOCAL's. Until I see some berylium domes in there, I declare shenanagans.

I'm pretty sure S&V stopped being credible a while ago. I used to love their magazine a couple years ago. I recently resubscribed to help my niece with a school magazine sale. It would seem that generally only review more expensive products now. There seems to be a pattern where all of their awards go to those that advertise in their magazine and exceptionally expensive gear.

You will not receive better customer service. A quick example of this is when my dog knocked something over into the corner of my center channel speaker. I posted about this on their forums looking for nothing more than a virtual shoulder to cry on and the CEO of the company sends me a PM containing his cell phone number and instructions to call him the next day. The conversation was great and he offered me a replacment speaker at cost.
I kept the old one and now use it as a rear center.... You never see CS like that these days.

@aprather: Yeah, I had a similar experience from Hafler. Something (ex-wife *cough*) knocked one of my haflers over and it nicked the finish. Hafler (then owned by Rockford Corp) replaced the entire unit for free.

1K bucks? Ouch.

Overall, I'm prety glad with my Logitech speakers.

Never had to use more than half of it's punch.

Noise gate can be bothersome at times, but not much really.

Eh... without knowing which speaker systems they compared in each category, and lacking an explanation of why they chose one over the other, it's kind of useless information.

For the size and convenience, I really like my $1100 Orb Audio setup.
