The garage is half outdoors open to the air. That's how the FDNY allowed it. The video is a sales tool and does not show the actual approved design. It's got low walls and it's concrete is built to keep a bad or drunk driver from going over the side or through it.

Having said that I still think this is an awful idea. One can never overestimate the stupidity of people.

@odobo: it looked like they designed it so you wouldn't have to back up, entry is made by pulling in, then exit is made by driving forward to the 'exit' elevator, and then driving forward on the way out of the ground floor...good for traffic flow.

@enchantedgoose: A bunch of rich new yorkers killing themselves through asphyxiation because they don't realize they should turn off the car in the elevator is a terrible idea?

Seems like a great way to deal with the wall street executives.
