    the NASA app? Really? I used it for all of 5 seconds. No high resolution images at all. Worthless. Not even something cool that I could use a wallpaper. #essentialiphoneapps

    That Layar app seems cribbed from an anime that recently came out called "Eden of the East", where the protagonist computer club had invented EXACLTLY that system of user-generated information accessible via cameraphone picture. #essentialiphoneapps

    I disagree about TomTom and Navigon. Having used both for a couple months now I can say TomTom is clearly the best navigation app. Yes, Navigon does have more "features" and bells and whistles but TomTom really kicks it ass in performance. TomTom's loads faster, recalcultes routes faster, and gives better directions, which is what I want in a navigation app. #essentialiphoneapps

    @macpatrik: Agreed.

    I've used a couple of the GPS apps on the iPhone and TomTom definitely preforms the best. It get's huge points in my book for loading and locating almost instantly.

    Shame it's a hundred freaking dollars. #essentialiphoneapps

    You gotta give a shout out to Air Video by InMethod! It streams your media from your computer at home to your iPhone over WiFi/3G. Just got it today.

    Things by Cultured Code is amazing too. One of the best GTD apps despite the missing OTA syncing. #essentialiphoneapps

    I just got Mobile Air Mouse... BadAss!! Apparently its old news to some of my friends, but I just found it when it hit the Top 25 Paid Apps. Now I can ditch my wireless keyboard and mouse that are taking up space on my coffee table which I used for my MacMini. I think its a pretty essential App if you are doing the same thing. And it also works with windows.

    Backgrounder is the sole reason I jailbroke my iPhone and I think it is a must have if you have a jailbroken iPhone.

    You cannot be leaving out xbmc remote...80% of the people on here know AND use xbmc. It is the ONLY reason why I even purchased and ipod touch!

    oh c'mon, you have a JB section and no BiteSMS? It's the only reason I'm still thinking about JB my iPhone. One of the best app for this phone IMO, one that should be included in the next FW update by Apple :)

    Also, there's an official wikipedia app now! And in your list you skipped all the news apps (NYT, WSJ, ESPN or even Eurosport).

    Finally, I highly suggest Around me, Tunewiki (which isn't perfect but most of the time it works) and todo. ebay too is ok if you're into auctions.

    @mendo: The reasoning was that the RSS reader would cover nyt, wsj, espn, eurosport or pretty much anything else. And as far as the official Wikipedia app goes, we wrote that up a while back, and it's still pretty bad.

    Tunewiki's pretty good though, and so is Around Me. Thanks.

    AirMouse. I know this is bass-akwards, because most people would rather use a physical keyboard to type on an iPhone, but I use the iPhones international keyboards to type on my computer via AirMouse. It's like having a mini Optimus Maximus- and no matter how slow typing on the iPhone is, it's faster than 1 character a time with character map, or hunt and peck with unlabelled keys.
