    The Apple version will be better but will have a white bezel and cost 3x more. It will also only have one knob instead of two and when you shake it Steve Jobs will personally murder you.

    Kinda stupid isn't it?
    I mean, the only value I can imagine for the original Etch a Sketch nowadays is for people who had it as kids (me, for instance) - nostalgic value - and for artists who can do unbelievable stuff with it considering how limited the knobs are - artistic value.

    Now, unless that Freestyle thing, besides being very ugly (for today's standards), is also dirty cheap, it's kinda pointless. #etchasketch

    According to Mental Floss, the original design of the device used a joystick. It was Ohio Art's development of the product that replaced it with knobs.

    So, our "old school" toys weren't necessarily "original." #etchasketch

    I think the height of my 2D artistic ability was spending 3 hours on an airplane making this zombie vs. tank on a 3" etch a sketch. Getting good at curves was a skill! #etchasketch

    Also, this no-longer has the advantage of giving you training for manual machining tools. A knee mill is basically a giant etch-a-sketch which can cut it's line in to metal. #etchasketch

    If you think that's cheating, the challenging aspect of this one is drawing something solely consistent of perfect horizontal and vertical lines, making it the exact opposite of the original. #etchasketch

    @Zack-J-T: Oh, HELL no. I spent my time trying to draw a perfect circle. At the age of 6. Needless to say, there were more than a few Etch-A-Sketches in the house with significant structural damage, due to being lobbed at the nearest brick wall...sigh. #etchasketch

    @matt_mcmhn: Between the lack of it actually working and it being called "i-sketch" it is an unfortunate two strikes. That is not to say it is "out", it is just in a sketchy situation. On my just made up on the spot scale of "would purchase for non-iPhone owners only to piss them off" to "must acquire before being being served as the main course at a cannibalism convention", it is probably closer to the former than latter, unfortunately.
