It also includes a free extra battery.

Someone suggest that we just go buy an identical one and swapped it and returned the dead one and tell them it doesn't work... doesn't sound quite right, but definitely a "guerrilla app support" technique :-)

However, I also worked as a service tech for a while, and if something came in that was under the manufacturer's warranty, we had to ship the item elsewhere to be repaired by an authorized service. And the loaners we had were definitely not top of the line.
If you want an extended warranty, especially on a laptop if you're worried about the screen getting damaged (not covered under the standard warranty) then for pity's sake buy it from the manufacturer.

I've had run-ins with people that have said no over and over again with no remorse. I've had ones that tell me "Yea, I know there's a problem... but sorry I can't do anything about it". Then I've had ones that say "Well that's lame... I'll do it anyways though!".
So yea, it really depends on how nice the customer service person is.

Sometimes they are worth it.

Also, a good rule of thumb to remember is: if it has a lot of moving parts, like a desktop PC or laptop, it's not a bad idea to get a warranty. For a TV? Particularly a 26" or 32"? I'd skip it. You almost never need it. An employee tried, with a half grin, to pitch me on a warranty for a $40 Sansa Clip. We both knew that was a waste of both of our times.
Another thing, get all your cables, including HDMI at Wal-Mart. It's MUCH cheaper and they're all the same, really, no matter how much "gold" plating the Monster ones have. Digital data cables are binary. They either work or they don't work. It's not analog TV.

1. Life insurance with the car.
2. Extended warranty
3. Gap Coverage
It COMES with 5 year, 60,000 on the whole car, and 10 years/100,000 powertrain. The car is worth 18k, and I owe 12k on it, so I am not upside down and....if I die, i don't really care if my car is paid off (also I already have life insurance).

Between $300 and $400 dollars (TV was $3000)

oh and don't tell them, but since power surge is covered... um, power surge is fairly easy to replicate. shh. I didn't tell you

In all, over the past two years,
three HP laptops and four HD's necessitating a complete swap-out for a MacBook (which they cover, easy) *side note: zero problems whatsoever*
complete replacement of a Whirlpool dishwasher, microwave, and smooth top oven, after electrical failures; overhaul of compressor on fridge
5 Xbox 360's within a grand span of 6 months, replaced, no questions
3 Playstation 3's, in one year, swapped out, w/o questions
BB's extended warranties are a no-brainer for me. But, that's just this one opinion.

Man, I think you might need to hire an electrician or dust your house more often. I've never had a gaming console fail on me (in like 20 years of owning them). Never had a fridge/oven/microwave fail. I bought an original xbox 360 when they came out, and never had a rrod. Never had a tv fail. I did have 2 computers fail on me, but that was due to insufficient power supply and poor ups.

@Saboth: I'm giving your xbox cancer with my mind. Because I'm a dick.
