not to complain but i spy two typos and im not done yet. "In some ways, Windows 7 is actually better on Windows 7 than it is on OS X." "but it's you only choice."
make that 3 "And if you third-party PMP does have a syncing app,"
ugh 4 "won't have been update for Windows 7."

In reply to Motorola Droid Review
I read through all the comments here and this review. I've been to the verizon store twice now, and played around on the phone for about 30 minutes each time. Here is my take.

The first thing that can't be emphasized enough, and you have to see for yourself, is the screen resolution. There is literally nothing on the market that comes anywhere close to this phone, and it affects a ton of different aspects, especially maps and browsing.

The second thing you notice is the touch sensitive buttons at the bottom totally suck. Granted, you might get used to this after a few weeks of using the phone, but it is completely unintuitive at first. I started picking up how to use them within about 20 minutes, but you still hit them accidentally all the time, or worse, miss them and click something else on the main screen.

Third, you will never use the camera. It takes soooooooooo long to focus it is useless. I can only hope that Google is able to fix this, but I've looked around and haven't found anyone hinting at it.

I agree with Matt's review about the keyboard. Its ok, but is just awkward enough that its never going to be speedy like my blackberry. Someone else mentioned, "why did they put it on there then instead of making a slimmer, less complex phone" I can't agree more. This stinks of a marketing ploy, and a costly one.

Other than some lagginess on the home screen, apps open super fast, web pages are snappy, google maps is faster on the phone than it is sometimes on my PC. Bottomline, the phone is fast, iPhone 3gs fast, and yes, I've actually used iPhone 3gs. The only thing is the home page, which has to be something with Android, or possibly the stupid widgets, not indicative of the hw. However, if you have a few apps running in the background, the phone slows down noticeably and this can cause some really erratic and annoying behavior. The bad thing is, it isn't really easy to tell what is currently running(like with the Pre), but again, this is more OS related than HW related.

    About the OS:
Very unpolished....and its the ONLY reason I didn't immediately buy a Droid. I've used my friends' iPhones and Pre's and I can't believe the chasm that exists between Android and its two true competitors. Apparently Google's UI developers are a bunch of lazy stoners who got fired from Cupertino. I still don't understand how the home screen can be so laggy while the complex satelite view maps scroll around and zoom so effortlessly....and it is a complete disaster that they don't have a movie player on this phone with a screen like this.

    Summary:
The hardware, while it has a single stupid drawback(qwerty) is the best phone hardware available, way better than iPhone. In other words, stop bashing Moto. They have laid their next golden egg(last was razr). It is just a shame it is paired with Android. Google is trying to be like Microsoft in the early days of Windows when Microsoft was still breaking onto the scene, and these Android phones will disappoint for a while when compared to a targeted OS that only supports a couple devices like PalmOS and iPhone. Remember how everybody had AppleII's for their home and then somehow Microsoft won? I don't, I was still a baby, but someday, the same thing will likely happen with smartphones. I just don't think it will happen with Android 2.0.

My son had a heart condition as a child that was going to basically define his life. An experimental procedure, taking just one day in the hospital, completely permanently rectified it. He's gone on to be very physical and healthy person. Looking at things like this woman or my son you can't help but be inspired. #aimeemullins

It's amazing what kind of emotions people like Aimee stir in otherwise able bodied (but usually more feeble-minded) people, myself not excluded:

Usually it starts with sympathy, when the last thing they do is feel sorry for themselves (or want anyone else to), then goes on to admiration and then finally envy that we haven't grabbed our own sorry lives by the short and curlies in the way that Aimee so plainly has.

Looking forward to hearing about all the gadgets this week. And Giz, great coup. #aimeemullins

aimee if you have any running tips (such as how exactly to position the body when running and what to think about while running) I would love to hear it.

of course I have no idea what style it is you do (short, marathon, or ultramarathon) and obviously the way you run those 3 types are entirely different from one another, but whatever advice you would have to give on any of those would be appreciated! #aimeemullins

To all the commenters stating that she doesn't have the cred to guest edit Giz:

"After graduating high school with honors, Aimee was one of three students in the US chosen for a full academic scholarship from the Department of Defense, and at age 17 became the youngest person to hold a top-secret security clearance at the Pentagon. She worked there as an intelligence analyst during her summer breaks."

Even if we ignore her world-record accomplishments as an athlete, I think she's qualified to edit a few gadget posts... #aimeemullins

@JacquesAss: It's funny that normally when I look at people in this position I usually feel that I take for granted my legs, but after browsing through some of the information available on her I realize I took a lot more for granted than that, she took nothing for granted and won.

    Hi Aimee,

Welcome to Giz. This isn't really a tech related question, but how did you get your health insurance to pay for those non-standard running legs? Or did you? My wife's a below-the-knee amputee and we're having no luck. #aimeemullins

I'm curious to see where the orthotic/prosethesis tech leads us in relation to sports. We've definitely not seen the last of the controversy--the waters are only going to get more muddy.

While it used to seem far fetched to consider anyone utilizing a prosthetic device as having a competitive advantage, advancements in the technology are rapidly closing the gaps. I guess we'll truly know we're there when someone deliberately elects to replace a body part with tech to perform better than they believe they naturally could.
