My son had a heart condition as a child that was going to basically define his life. An experimental procedure, taking just one day in the hospital, completely permanently rectified it. He's gone on to be very physical and healthy person. Looking at things like this woman or my son you can't help but be inspired. #aimeemullins

"Standing between a slender 5' 8" to 6' 1"—depending on her particular mood"

Great photo aside, this is what got my attention. She can swap out leg lengths like some of us swap out shoes. That's amazing. #aimeemullins

@Jeb_Hoge: I definitely agree, but then again, just about all women have had this advantage for quite some time. The choice of wearing high heels varying from 1" up to 6" is commonplace. #aimeemullins

Okay, so she's an amputee. Fine. Athlete? Check. Not to seem the spoilsport, but I'm hoping that she'll bring some perspective on topics outside of those two personal attributes. #aimeemullins

Welcome aboard, Aimee. We are a motley (and mouthy) crew, but I have every confidence you will enjoy your stay with us this week while we learn about advancements in biotechnology. #aimeemullins

I think the only lasting downside for me, personally, if i was missing the ends of my legs is that, no matter where i go or what i do, it all comes back to the legs, and how they aren't there. I find it annoying enough having to explain why I'm missing an eyebrow.

However, given that her leglessness is the focus of our first introduction to Ms. Mullins, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that a bit of harmless humor related to the subject won't be frowned upon (at least by the editors)

    Apologies in advance.

I'm glad giz is giving her a leg up. Lord knows that footing the rent isn't easy these days. It's good to hear from people from all walks of life, especially on a technology blog. I look forward to running into her on the site, and hopefully she will set the pace for more female bloggers in tech.

and yes, i know that was just about as tasteless as a Styrofoam sandwich, but then again, at least i got it over with, and she won't be surprised at my absence of class and lack of comedic boundaries.

I think everyone on this forum has missed the most important comment to make about the above passage/photo.

That running form is spot on, perfect. 99.9% of the people with 2 working legs don't have form that looks that good (including myself) while sprinting.
