The most interesting is the fingerprint ID directly on the screen so that the iPhone can see which finger you're using and accept gestures appropriately.

The fingerprint ID also, of course, can theoretically act as a security device so that only you can activate your phone. There's also haptic (physical) feedback when you're hitting things, as well as using the touchscreen as an RFID reader. None of the three are really mindblowing in themselves, on the surface, but if implemented intelligently might make for a big step forward in the iPhone product line. [Macrumors via Boy Genius]

<![CDATA[Medion GoPal P4425 SatNav has Fingerprint Recognition]]> Given that SatNav systems are one of the hottest items to steal these days, Medion's latest GoPal might go some way in redressing the balance. Its P4425 model boasts fingerprint recognition for extra security, meaning that not only will thieves be unable to use it, but might find it that little bit harder to find out where you live &mdash unless, of course, your car is parked in your driveway when they break into your motor and steal it.

Just 17 mm thick, the P4425 has voice recognition for certain commands, meaning no more one-handed steering while you thump the SatNav unit as it repeats "Come off the motorway at the next exit" in its robot voice. There's RDS-TMC antenna for live traffic updates, 1.5GM memory, a 4.2-inch color widescreen and an FM transmitter so you can get "Come off the motorway at the next exit" voice guidance piped through your speakers. There's even a pre-loaded database that tells you where all the speed cameras are.

With maps of the UK and the rest of western Europe, the GoPal P4425 is out in the UK in November for 299.99, or around $600. Will this be the shape of SatNav security to come? [NaviGadget]

<![CDATA[Let Your Fingers Do the Walking]]> Yes, that's right, once again Asia has handed us our hats with cellular technology. The new Pantech "fingerprint-recognition" phone called the Gl100 will be marketed in Europe, Asia and the Middle East and I'm kinda bummed. Not only is it extremely good-looking and really, really light at 82 grams, but it uses something called (I love this) "Secret Finger Dial" and a "fingerprint scanner surface" to register positive fingerprint identification to unlock the keys and call ten different corresponding finger controlled speed dial phone numbers. You can save 800 numbers and allows for 2.5 hours of voice recording. It also has a 1.3 megapixel camera and 64MB of RAM.
