    I think my first gadget was TV Pong, mine even came with a Light Gun.. but I don't think it ever worked. (Or my sniping skills REALLY sucked)


    My next one cost me a fortune.. Commodore Vic-20 with a cassette drive. The salesman was cool, thru in a cassette with Frogger/Pac-man/Centipede on it. I loved that system. I spent SO many hours typing in machine code from the back of PC Magazines.. good times.. good times.

    I used money from my 6th birthday to buy a Pocket Fisherman.


    And this commercial is the reason I bought it. It was a tough choice between this and a Mr. Microphone. Looking back, the Mr. Microphone would have been a better buy.

    My parents sold my dog and gave me the money... bought a Gameboy, I was 9 years old. I still miss the dog. :-(

    1976. I was eleven. Saved my allowance money for a Panasonic portable radio that had AM/FM/TV Audio. I think it was about $45. Bought it at Long's Drug Store in College Grove Mall. And it was so cool and futuristic looking.


    And I wonder why I can't wait for the Slingplayer app for my iPhone. I'm still that 11-year old inside.

    Some 30+ years ago, a Paasche AB Turbine Airbrush, considered the Cadillac of airbrushes and still sold as such today. I was studying illustration at the time.

    Like marlow2689, my first gadget was a bright yellow Sony Sport Walkman. It was really the best piece of equipment I ever owned. The thing was rock solid, it never once froze up, and being weatherproof, I could get drenched in the rain on the way home, and the rubber-sealed buttons and clamshell never failed.


    To this day, it sees duty, but now as a tape-to-mp3 machine hooked up to my PowerMac. The sound out of the jack still sounds as good as it did back in the late 90's.

    I'm not really sure what the first gadget I bought was... Maybe a GameBoy color, or some Tiger handheld I bought with my allowance... I have no idea. My first gadget probably was game related though.

    Picked up a KOSS Walkman-style tape player a couple of years later.

    @OMG! Ponies!: Oh, shit! I didn't buy it but my family had this exact model. I used to set it up in front of the TV or the radio and record songs and show themes I liked. Recordings sounded like ass but it was the only way to make a show's theme part of your collection back then unless it happened to become a hit.

    @Pixelologist: People who sold those called them "shoebox" tape recorders, for obvious reasons. Recorded the theme from CHiPs more than once with a shoebox like that.
