While I do realize this is technology , it's not the kind of benchmarking I'd expect to see on a gadget blog..

Here in the US, weight is considered a medical stat and under HIPA is private so if this came here, they would be sued for breach of privacy. Thank goodness.

@Curves: Ahhh. The good ole Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. If it weren't for HIPAA, where would we be?

With digital records, fully computerized doctor's offices, and with a robust system of accountability throughout the medical profession.

    I'm 5'4" and weigh 162 lbs.

Then again, I'm a chaotic good half-hobbit/half-dwarf with a constitution of 15 and a strength of 12. As a rogue/fighter, I can wear chain mail and scale mail. So my heavy, stocky build is really an asset.

This bus stop scale fails because it doesn't take character class and stats into account.

I'd have no trouble with that, but then I'm 5'10" and 145 lbs (66 kg). ;-)

@Sean Robertson: so basically it would shame you into hitting the gym and putting *on* some pounds.

@Flea-ish: I can do that without going to the gym - with the awesome power of burritos.

I'm glad I don't care if people see what my weight is.

Personally, if someone thought you looked either good or bad, seeing the actual weight won't make much of a difference :P

@Kaiser-Machead: For men it's different. If you weigh less than you look, people will say you are lean. If you weigh more, people will say you must be all muscle. Women are just "fat" or "skinny".

@Kaiser-Machead: As Walrus said, it's a very different matter for women. Dudes don't care what they weigh, unless they're trying to make weight for some sport. And we aren't judged by our appearance the same way women are.

I imagine this ad campaign isn't going to go over too well with the fairer sex. Growing up I was always taught "never ask a woman her age or her weight." Guess they need to add "never broadcast it at a bus stop" to that axiom.
