Log homes, especially modern ones, can be both beautiful and functional, and a pleasure to live in regardless of what country you call home, but these log homes are neither of those things. Yes, these are easy to build, but with only a bit more effort, you could have something with a lot more amenities.

When I see a log cabin I think

    Switzerland

    Sweden

    Scotland

    Canada.

Not America, but then Americans hijack everything as cultural signs of their greatness even though most American ideas came from Europe along most of Americans.

What exactly is wrong with this design, I think it looks very nice especially how they look like apile of cut logs, but then any chance to bash the French for not helping in an illegal war eh ? Did you vote for Bush ?

No, I didn't vote for Bush. Either time. But the French are still fun to make fun of. With their tiny chins and mustaches and baguettes and inability to fight a nation that is not England.

I don't really get your problem with this ...

Yes it is a sub-structure with log cladding. The log cladding offers superb exterior weathering and fire resistance - thus it is functional. It's not exactly the same as say a photo-veneered mdf panel.

While I applaud your desire for honesty of materiality, this is no less offensive than any building made out of brick today. Bricks are no longer load bearing and there are few masons with the ability to do so. Rather we stickframe the building and apply brick as a veneered skin for weather resistance ... same deal here.

As for windows ... there are the slots along the sides ... I guess it comes down to personal taste, but I think the language is clear and elegant.

@Dizznizzle: Yesss..... The cladding of LOGS made of WOOD provides excellent fire resistance.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to tend to my campfire. I made it out of LOGS, made of WOOD.

Only Americans think of maple syrup or Abraham Lincoln chopping wood in Illinois when they think of log cabins. The rest of the world knows better, houses have been made of logs much longer than America has even existed.

@badhatharry: quick history lesson, white people didn't "take" blues and jazz, black people in chicago and new orleans invented it. Jazz is arguably America's finest contribution in terms of culture.

@korybing: Nope. I'm saying Jimmy Page stole his sound from the black man. Same with Clapton. I only call smooth jazz crap. And if you disagree with that, I will have to accept your invitation to fisticuffs. However, since you are a Zepplin fan, you most likely will not let the likes of Kenny G assault your ears.
