It's also no batmobile which, in my opinion, is a good thing...
Could you imagine what life would be like if all the stupid rich Paris Hilton's of the world could actually own and operate flying vehicles on a daily basis??
Sorry... but I doubt it is possible at all to incorporate flying into daily commuting until we can establish systems and infrastructures strong enough to support mass scale transit systems to fly these cars for us.
@nameSpencer: Given the frequency which they wreck their normal cars the first few months would be terror in LA and NY, but after that it would be great. (far less likely to walk away from a plane wreck than a car wreck)
It's a little low, but I think you'd be surprised at how easy it is to find a General Aviation airport within 540 km of where ever you are (I know you could theoretically fly 720 km on one tank, but it's usually best not to push your luck on fuel). And in an absolute emergency (i.e. worth breaking the law over), you could put it down on the interstate and drive to a gas station, because every interstate highway has a mile of straight flat road that can be used as a runway every five miles.
@Tachyon0118: "because every interstate highway has a mile of straight flat road that can be used as a runway every five miles"
That is false. Why people continue to believe this bit of inanity is unfathomable. The very notion of it is beyond laughable and if considered rationally, is patently absurd.
@William_III_Earl_of_Dastardshi...: I actually don't see much of a problem there. You should be able to airport hop and refuel almost no matter where you go and that will still be a heck of a lot faster than driving.
@William_III_Earl_of_Dastardshi...: Considering you'll need to be licensed and certified, you'll also have spent considerable time (in flight school) learning how to make and file a flight plan. Given that, you'd probably also have no problem knowing where you need to go, and how far, in order to refuel and continue.
@3o01: The fact that it'll require FAA mandated licensing and flight planning should alleviate some of that confusion. You'll need to maintain radio and radar contact with nearby towers and keep a log, as would any civilian aircraft pilot.
This reminds me of that Dune Buggy song by The Presidents of the United States of America, dont know why, I hope we get to see some footage of his journey though...
@Curves: This just supports my theory that most innovation/great ideas occur late at night either high on caffeine or marijuana while watching Cartoon Network.
How do you steer it when it's in the air? Also, there doesn't seem to be any cargo space. I assume that there will be a convoy following around with supplies and fuel?

Worst thing is that after getting the mod on my iPhone I forgot it on a bus. It's gone now. Shame.

I think if I found it, I'd just surreptitiously drop it in the nearest sewer grating, and never speak of it, to anyone.

Isn't that range a bit low? Or is this common for that class of aircraft?
Even if you manage to find enough airports along the way, you likely have to make some serious detours only for refilling when travelling from A to B.

Mohler suing them in 5..4..3..
Of course, this 'skycar' actually has a chance of making it into production, unlike Mohlers...
01/12/09
In all reality, I would consider THIS more of a skycar, as it can drive like a car, unlike the Moller.
