    Wasn't this meant to be some kind of way of preventing rampant piracy in blu-ray? Let the Chinese have their own format while the rest of the world sticks with blu-ray.

    Too late. Content will drive adoption of any new format, and the studios are not going to risk another damaging format war that will rattle consumer acceptance of next-gen video. Anyone who went with HD-DVD got burned. No way the studios are going to send even a hint of a whiff of a suggestion that you might get burned by going with blu-ray.

    freely, as in, easily and often and without corporate, government, or techinical limitations?


    or


    freely, as in, for no cost to the consumer?


    This is a very critical distinction.

    Porn lived off its "we killed Betamax" honors for years, but is no more prepared these days to be a kingmaker to Blu-ray or any other format than your mom is. Yes, I said your mom.


    Porn now dutifully follows gamers like everyone else, no matter how much Stormy Daniels shows up on G4TV. I was surprised to see this article wasn't a year old.

    What's wrong with porn in HD? If anything it'll undo what porn has done to our society. It has made us have higher expectations in a woman's appearance. It's obvious who the chronic porn viewers are. The ones who have high expectations in women being perfect.

    @Gustavo Rocha: Porn's illegitimate setting of expectations has more to do with things like breast size and choice of clothing than it does about "number of track marks" and "size of genital warts."


    I do believe you are confusing two very different (yet both important) issues.

    To be honest, there are lot more ugly "hoo hah" than there are pretty ones.


    Sometimes, it literally looks like a meat you might find on your arby's sandwich. (In my opinion)


    So I honestly cannot understand the need to HD porn. Not that I am against it. I just don't see why anything more than DVD resolution is needed...
