When laypeople talk tech I both giggle and cringe at the same time.

And no, woman in red shirt. Most people don't remember the Newton. Try something a little more mainstream like the Palm Pilot. But even that's pushing it.

Ok - seriously - this really confirms my long standing suspicion that Apple bribes a lot of mainstream media - which isn't helped by these two bimbette's clear lack of functioning grey matter.

First, there's been tablets and convertable touchscreen computers for YEARS. Even Best Buy has them. If they couldn't get up and walk to a Best Buy to find out what's out there - then we're talking epic fail or epic fangirl. Maybe both since they were at least aware of the Newton. (Although I'm betting that was scripted - or they saw *that* episode of The Simpsons...)

Second, "everyone complains about everything looking too computery and so they want handwriting"? Say what?

Have you SEEN most people's handwriting? The original Windows Tablet PC was built around the idea of you writing 'just like on paper' rather than using handwriting reco - and it was a flop.

Finally, as I mentioned - we've had tablets for a while now and guess what? We've been through this - most people can type far, far faster than they can write. That's why every pure-tablet has failed and almost everyone has gone to convertables.

Hmmm. So someone said 'iTouch', while the other woman mentioned the Newton? And that's a big show-stopper for a lot of commenters here? The "iTouch" comment was par-the-course for any tech blog comment string (and we all know what someone means when they say that, so the 'griefers' are simply being pedantic at this point. I give them props for at least mentioning the Newton, something probably HALF the Palm Pre spazzes on this site have never even heard of, and I hate Fox News.

I hate them so much that this was a massive let-down, as it wasn't that 'magical.'

I don't know. Not the dig deal I wanted from the lead-in Giz gave it.

why do i feel retarded after I watch something from Fox news. I really think they just say..."ok so today i'm going to pull this out of my ass and throw it at the wall and hope it sticks."

At the same time she makes it seem like hand writing on a tablet is something new. PC tablets have been doing this for a very long time, it's not like it's the NEXT brilliant thing Apple has come up with. And also who the crap is complaining that they can't see their relatives handwriting? I can't even read my mom's handwriting let alone my grandparents. Thats what typing is for so i can understand what the hell they are writing down. Brilliant argument, that is exactly why Apple is making a tablet so we can keep seeing everyones handwriting.

@beekerstudios: Have you ever watched CNN? I hardly call what they show news, (Now I watch mostly Fox and NBC) so I was stuck watching CNN and for a hour they had a freaking great time talking about how awesome they were and how they do things and then more time of people walking around talking about absolute nonsense and going around another country talking about food. Not once in my hour and a half time there did I see A news.

So I'd rather trust Fox for at least showing news, and having reporters on their main shows who aren't complete lying idiots than watch many others.
