SSDs might be the storage du jour for their speed, but there's still no beating regular-ass hard drives for their price to capacity ratio. And now, the first 1.5TB portable hard drive, from Seagate.
This Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk sounds like an exercise commandment for your desk, but it's the world's first 3TB external hard drive. Best news: It has USB 3.0 and FireWire 800 (along with USB 2.0).
Seagate's GoFlex storage system consists of external hard drives and accessories which can be matched so that you can connect to almost anything. The system is also the first one with which Seagate will include NTFS drivers for Macs.
Seagate woke up and smelled the coffee, adding a much needed 1080p HDMI output port, Ethernet connectivity, and Dolby Digital and DTS 2.0 to their FreeAgent Theater HD Media Player. The new FreeAgent Theater+ also gets new video codecs.
Seagate's portable 2.5" FreeAgent Go Pro for Mac already has the triple interface—FireWire 400/800 and USB 2.0—but now it comes with 500GB spinning at 7200rpm for the best portable video and audio editing performance.
Slickly designed external hard drives are all the rage lately, but we originally scoped out Seagate's FreeAgent line back at CES. The FreeAgent Go holds up to 160GB and with the included Ceedo virtualization software, you can run apps directly from the drive, which is useful if you're stuck using a public computer.
