In reply to G1 Teardown Reveals Dupe of Blackberry Trackball, Twin Vibrators
Though the trackball itself is the same one that RIM uses, it seems to feel "grippier" than the BB ones. Maybe HTC put a different type of coating or paint on it. Oh...and the two vibration motors are easily explained. Efenili was on the right track. The one in the screen portion of the phone is to provide haptic feedback for certain functions. The reason they decided to go with two instead of just one was due to the separate screen and main body design of the phone. The main body and the screen are two separate components physically connected to each other at just two small spots. The two vibration motors ensure that the screen vibrates enough even when in the pushed open position to provide adequate haptic feedback.

The thing that surprised me was how small the compass sensor is. I expected it to be more than just a tiny chip soldered onto the board.

I was wondering if the vibration motor on the touchscreen side was meant to give the impression of a real button press when using the touchscreen?

So it gives a little bump when you press the screen for feedback....im guessing that is what it is for right?

@efenili: So you're saying when I press the button correctly, I'll get a response?

@Git Em SteveDave loves this guy-->: Press a virtual button on the touchscreen, and a the vibrator gives a very brief pulse that feels surprisingly close to the feel of pushing a real button. That's haptic feedback. I did not know the G1 did that? The LG Voyager has it for use with the onscreen keyboard.

Can you alternate the vibe motors, so you could set up a vibration wave?
