Look what you've done! I'm melting! melting! Oh, what a world! What a world! Who would have thought a good little girl like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness? Oooooh, look out! I'm going! Oooooh! Ooooooh!

I always liked the Wicked Game Boy of the West a lot more than that stupid Dorothy. Some frenchies thought otherwise and have desecrated a few of Nintendo's mighty handhelds to honor its 20th Anniversary. Art, schmart. Leave the poor Game Boys alone, and go read the definitive 20th Anniversary of Nintendo's Game Boy timeline instead. [Flickr via Tiny Cartridge via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[What Would Happen If We Tried to "Play" This NES Emulator Cartridge Casemod?]]> Finally, an NES cartridge casemod I can get behind without weeping uncontrollably. This one houses a complete library of NES games, uses the original buttons, and hides inside the Super Mario/Duck Hunt combo cartridge. But wait, there's more:

There's also an mp3 player, movie player and an FM radio receiver. The video out is also intact, meaning this little guy can be used to play on the big screen.

Games in action below:

To answer your question, yes, this mod is very similar to one we've featured before. This one is cleaner, boasts more features, and plays Game Boy games too, so it gets the nod today. Nice work.

Oh, and the answer to the headline question, by the way, is unicorns. They would exist. [Ben Heck Forums via technabob]

<![CDATA[ODROID Gaming Handheld Runs Android; Now Available for Pre-Order]]> No, it's not a new Wonderswan, it's the ODROID. This curious little gaming handheld has a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, Android 1.5 OS, 512MB of RAM, and the same 833MHz Samsung CPU as the iPhone 3GS.

A developer version is now up for pre-order, and includes a charger cable, serial console debugging board, and batteries. It costs the equivalent of about $320, and should be delivered by November 5—ahead of standard $250 models arriving sometime in December.

The device has 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a mini-HDMI port to connect it to your TV. There's no 3G, though there's a chance you could use a 3G dongle with the USB port.

It's a cute little ugly duckling, but what 5-star, compelling games does Android have outside of MAME? And while it's easy to imagine that better games will come as more Android phones hit the streets...why not just buy one of those instead? [aESOP (translated) and Hard Kernel via Slashgear]

<![CDATA[Gutted Classic Game Boy Made Into 80GB Hard Drive]]> I generally weep when modders take classic video game consoles like this Game Boy here and gut it to produce something less important, like a hard drive.

I'm taking solace in the fact that this mod might be used to store Game Boy ROMs for an emulator. I hope. And no, it no longer plays games—that's a sticker. [Hackaday via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[This Is How Two Girls Play Gameboy When They Really Love Each Other]]> Today I met Matt, Wilson, Adam, and John for dinner at Momofuku Noodle Bar, here in NY. As I got into the subway, I saw these two really cool blonde girls playing Gameboy together in the weirdest and funniest way.

Sitting tight together, head to head, one was frantically rubbing her thumb against the Gameboy D-pad, while the other clicked the buttons. They were laughing, playing constantly, and actually having loads all fun all the way to Manhattan. I don't know what game they were playing, but it was a really sweet moment to see two people enjoying themselves in such a silly and careless way.

<![CDATA[This Nintendo Ad Out-Pervs Even My Honed Sensiblities]]> It's rare that, as an adult, I look at a sexually suggestive joke and don't quite get it. But it's even rarer that the ad would be from Nintendo's marketing department.

This vintage Nintendo ad was designed be Leo Burnett and ran in UK magazines like Loaded, FHM, and Viz. Apparently, I'm not alone in not quite grasping the ad's intention (I, for instance, interpret the ad as suggesting that preteen rapists may find the Game Boy Pocket an unnecessary distraction from early jail time) as the Advertising Standards Authority eventually pulled the ads because they "subjugated and humiliated" a restrained woman.

Besides, a better ad would be if the woman, subjugated and humiliated on the bed, was completely intent on playing the Game Boy Pocket. Right now, she's just horrified to be involved. We can all see that in real life. [daphaknee via tinycartridge via GoNintendo]

<![CDATA[The World's Second Greatest Gameboy iPhone Case]]> We've already seen the world's greatest Gameboy iPhone case. So what's done is done. But given that the world's greatest iPhone case is hidden somewhere in the depths of Akihabara, this runner up from Etsy might make a solid alternative.

Machine sewn from various colors of felt (yet lined in simple black), this $15 Gameboy iPhone case was just listed back on July 2nd but is already "sold out."

Still, the site is probably worth a bookmark if you're interested. As soon as Etsy user toastkawaii's hands stop bleeding from high demand, we're (not) sure she'll restock. [Etsy via iPhone Savior via MAKE]

<![CDATA[PediSedate: The Only Game Boy Accessory Designed to Drug Children]]> This is a Game Boy hooked up to a nitrous oxide machine. It's called the PediSedate. Nope, nothing sketchy about this.

The PediSedate was designed for dentists, allowing them to distract kids with video games while they were drugged in prep for oral surgery. But hey, why limit it to dentists? You could use this to sedate children for any number of reasons! And with a name like PediSedate, you get all sorts of great ideas right off the bat. I'm so surprised this never caught on. <![CDATA[Urgent]]> My name is Mrs. Susan Shabangu, a mother of three children and a deputy minister who spotted Gameboy iPhone Case somewhere in Japan.

I wrote to you earlier regarding an urgent business transaction value at the sum of US$30.5m (Thirty Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars only) which will be benefiting to you and me, if only you can find this Gameboy iPhone case. I had one in my possession until the 29th April 1996 to date when the president of South Africa Mr. Thabo Mbeki betrayed my trust, took my virginity and robbed me of the beloved screen protector.

He has spent every day since pillaging the countryside and raping the chickens.

I do not know if you got my first Email or not but I need you to notify me if are you willing to work with me in this regards or not. You seem like a chaste, virtuous man or woman. Maybe when tragedy falls behind me, one can move forward, together.

<![CDATA[The GAME-800: A Fatty Pocket Emulator]]> The GAME-800 is just another one of those direct from manufacturer PMP all-in-one pocket devices. And maybe it's just because I was a corpulent kid, but I find the design quite charming.

Emulating NES/Famicom, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Super Famicom and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis titles, the GAME-800 is a crudely controlled but effective looking pocket emulator with a 3.5-inch screen and 4GB of expandable storage. It also doubles as an MPEG4 player, eBook reader (with Chinese/English text to speech) and a low fidelity camera.

The GAME-800 is available now for an $80 import. [China Grabber via technabob]

<![CDATA[Rumor: Nintendo Planning on Its Own Dsi App Store]]> Nintendo might be planning on taking on the iPhone and iPod Touch with an app download service of its own, and has been encouraging developers to come up with app-like content for the DSi.

The Dsi—at least the Japanese version—currently connects to the DS Shop and DSi Ware, Nintendo's bite-sized gaming store. But according to Developer, the company is allegedly hoping to get shorter-form non-gaming stuff on the device as well-things that could turn your Dsi into a personal lifestyle gadget, rather than just an entertainment one.

I guess it'd also be a way for the Dsi to really differentiate itself from the DS Lite. While the DSi is definitely more gadgety (what with camera and audio player), many were underwhelmed thanks to what they were losing.

There's only a week until Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's keynote, so we expect to hear more then. [Develop via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Cardboard Cosplay Nintendo Game Boy is Actually Playable]]> Well, you can use the directional pad anyway. Kudos for the working screen and Tetris music, but the A and B buttons on this cardboard Game Boy costume don't appear to do anything at all.

It's a cool use of an emulator, sure, but the combination of the look at that guy's face and the fact that you basically have to manipulate his crotch to make the blocks move is a bit off-putting, to say the least. [technabob]

Hot!

Sure, this cable is from Brando, and could very well toast all your handhelds with questionable craftsmanship, but just think of the tag team fun you'll grant your Game Boy and PSP on their way out.

Seven bucks to make a handheld's day. What's to lose? Oh, it's Brando. Might 'splode [Brando via DSFanboy]

<![CDATA[The Blip Festival: Like Girl Talk and a Game Boy Had a Baby]]> Brooklyn's Blip Festival 2008, which is taking place this weekend, December 4th through 7th, is a celebration of modders, music, vintage game consoles, and graphics. Artists come from all over the world to perform electronic music created with Game Boys, Commodore 64s, and Famicoms, and it's more than just bleeps and bloops: this stuff is really fun.

Chiptune musicians mod archaic game systems from Atari, Commodore, and Nintendo, among others, to be used as musical instruments. The music sounds a lot more varied than I would have expected, from hard-pumping dance electro to atmospheric pieces, not to mention the workshops, screenings, and presentations that are included in the Festival.

The documentary Reformat the Planet, which debuted earlier this year at South by Southwest, will be shown at the festival, and the trailer here does more than I could to describe how cool this is. The Blip Festival's tickets are $15 a night, and held at the Bell House (149 7th Street, Brooklyn).

<![CDATA[The GameBoy Explodes All Over this Beautiful T-Shirt]]> Just when I think I'm done with t-shirts, they pull me back in. And Exploded GameBoy by gamepaused is just enough to thwart my vision for a respectable wardrobe for a little longer.

I haven't disassembled a GameBoy as of late, but the deconstruction appears anatomically correct, even making room for the screw holes embedded in the plastic case. The pea under my fashion mattress, however, is that gamepaused.net logo on the battery. Something about ".net" just leaves the taste of free trade show shirt in my mouth. $23.
