When he was caught, he had 81 games on him. 81!

Reginald Johnson, a mail processing clerk in Germantown, Philadelphia, apparently stole every GameFly envelope that came his way, selling them back to GameStop for quick cash. The Post Service began to get suspicious when, we imagine, nobody in the greater Philadelphia area received GameFly rentals for six whole months, and an investigation led them to Johnson. Johnson, in turn, led the police on a chase, until he crashed his SUV, at which point he made a break for it, carrying 81 stolen games in a duffel bag. Johnson is likely to receive 12-18 months jail time for his crimes.

He didn't break the record 3200 Netflix DVDs stolen earlier this year, but remember: Games are worth more. So Reginald Johnson can feel like a winner, in jail, where he'll be for the next year or two. [Philly.com]

<![CDATA[Reno Redbox Kiosk Begins Spitting Out $2 Video Game Rentals]]> The first of the long-rumored Redbox video games kiosks has gone live in Reno. Rentals are $2 per night for an at-the-moment limited selection of 13 Xbox 360 titles.

Eventually, the selection will grow to encompass Wii, PlayStation 3 and PS2 games, which will compete directly with the likes of Blockbuster ($9 for five-night rental) and the recently launched GameFly kiosks, which were first spotted on the Texas Tech campus in February. <![CDATA[GameFly Introduces Rental Kiosks, Causes Devastating Yellow Paint Shortage]]> GameFly has just introduced their first G-Box rental kiosk as part of an orchestrated plan to take over the US game-rental-vending-machine market.

Formerly just a place to rent games online (Netflix for games), the company is releasing G-Boxes nationwide. The kiosks will be stocked with various Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii titles, and a simple credit card swipe will score you a $2.50/day rental (or $2 for Wii titles).

I admit, the prospect would be tempting if there were a machine placed right in my condo building, and if there were some sort of Gamefly subscriber advantage, and if there were a wide selection of games, and if some douchebag next door didn't scratch all the discs, and... [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Dealzmodo: Gamefly's Trade-In Program is Actually Pretty Good]]> I was just invited to the beta of the GameFly Trade-In Program because I've been a customer for a while, and the whole thing seems like a brilliant idea. You can apply credit toward your monthly payments only (used games would have been nice), and the prices they offer are actually pretty great compared to what you'd get at GameStop.

Examples:
BioShock: $23.00
Call of Duty 4: $23.00
Halo 3: $23.00
Lost Odyssey: $31.62
Kingdom Under Fire: $28.75
Rainbow Six Vegas 2: $31.62

The only downsides are that you can only get money off your subscription and you have to pack and ship your own games, but other than that it seems like a good deal if you can get a beta invite. [Gamefly]

<![CDATA[Dealzmodo: Huge Used Games Sale at Gamefly]]> From now until the end of the year, Gamefly has a huge deal on just about all their older games in order to clean out their warehouse for newer stock. You can get some pretty decent titles for $10-$20, including stuff like Shadowrun, Winning 11, NBA Street Homecourt, GRAW2 and Virtua Tennis 3. We've purchased some pre-owned games from Gamefly and they're quite good, complete with a new case and a manual. It's a good chance to use all that holiday money you got yesterday too. [Gamefly]

<![CDATA[Dealzmodo: Get a Wii for $50]]> We're big fans of the online game rental company Gamefly here, so this deal is both fantastic and devious, depending on how ethical you are. Gamefly has a deal going that will give you either a Wii or one year of Gamefly if you get five of your friends to sign up for a month of service.

Well, instead getting five people who want Gamefly, just pay five friends $10 each (that's the cheapest Gamefly subscription) and have them sign up for a month before cancelling. You get a Wii for $50 and your five friends get a month's worth of free rentals. Win/win. Except for Gamefly, that is.
