There's also an internal battery that charges the iPhone while playing.

The previous design was a lot sleeker, and placed the controls on the side. But it didn't have those awesome nubs. A test run of those units were shipped to selected people in February, and early feedback, plus a "sleepless night", lead to the updated, bigger look.

You'll need to Jailbreak your iPhone, but the iControlPad is supported by some of the biggest iPhone devs (including ZodTTD's PSX and GBA emulators). If you're interested in placing a pre-order, sign up for the newsletter over at: [iControlPad]

<![CDATA[iControlPad iPhone Gamepad Case Is Actually Coming]]> Zodttd says iControlPad, one of the iPhone gamepad cases that we saw a few months ago, is actually heading to production. YES! Proper controls for iPhone games!

The final version will be black, but contain the same layout and button count as the image above. No details on when it's heading to production, but it is, so we're excited. [Zodttd via Engadget]

<![CDATA[Osprey Gatling Gun Uses Xbox 360-like Controller]]> Christian from Defense Tech is at the Modern Day Marine Expo, where instead of having girls in mini-bikinis caressing speedboats and yachts, they have girls in mini-bikinis caressing torpedoes and gatling guns. Like this one on board the Osprey, which uses a controller with the same shape and functionality of an Xbox 360 gamepad.

The GAU-17, as this gatling gun is called, drops from the belly of the Osprey when needed. The crew chief—not the pilot—uses the gamepad and a targeting monitor to fire it. The targeting monitor—which also corrects targeting automatically for angle and speed—is connected to a sensor which houses a CCD camera, IR camera and laser range finder.

The GAU-17 is not limited in one axis, but covers the entire field of battle, moving all across 360 degrees. However, since the Osprey engines move from horizontal to vertical orientation depending on the maneuver, the targeting software limits the fire range so the rotors can't get damaged. The pilot can also activate a mode that fixes the gun in a forward configuration, allowing for traditional targeting without having to use the gamepad. [Defense Tech]

<![CDATA[M.A.D. Gamepad Features Tiny, Detachable Steering Wheel]]> The M.A.D. Gamepad is a mini USB gamepad that features an even minier steering wheel. We're not sure it's the most practical, ergonomic gamepad we've ever seen, but we sure admire the effort and, we'll be honest, the ludicrousness. Here's what just the wheel looks like:

Actually, with the USB port right on the back, this wheel could make for a pretty snazzy DIY add-on to existing hardware. If only it were mini USB, the modders could really have some fun. Pick yours up for $20. [Brando]

<![CDATA[Nintendo's Wii Classic Controller and GameCube GamePad Getting a Temporary Ban on Sales]]> As a result of Nintendo's loss in court to a Texas-based company called Anascape, the judge ruled that all sales of the Wii Classic Controller and the GameCube controller need to be temporarily halted until funds can be placed into an escrow account. What's the impact on you, Joe or Dan Consumer? Starting today, July 23, all sales of those controllers AND GameCube systems will be placed on hold, meaning that you should really try and find a place to buy these accessories now if you need them soon. On the bright side, Nintendo's Nunchuck controller isn't affected by this ruling about analog sticks, so you're safe if you just want to play Wii games. [1up via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Evergreen Genius Navigator 365: It's a Mouse! It's a Gamepad! It's a Gamemousepad!]]> Evergreen's new Genius Navigator 365 is described by the English translation of Impress as "a USB gamepad deformed laser mouse", and we couldn't agree more. The mouse is 1600dpi, the gamepad has eight buttons and a D-pad, and it sells for $33 (¥3,499). Be warned, of course, that you get what you pay for. [Impress]

<![CDATA[Dealzmodo Irony: Free USB Dancing Gamepad, from Kraft]]> Kraft, the company that I exclusively associate with the oh-so-fattening (and delicious) mac & cheese, has this odd deal on their site. They are giving away a free DDR-style dancing pad for the PC and free copies of the DDR knock-off, StepMania. They do want you to pay shipping, which is $6, but that isn't too bad for a fun game that could work off pounds and pounds of mac & cheese.

<![CDATA[WOLFKING FPS Keyboard Game-Pad]]> Similar to the Wolf Claw keyboard, this WOLFKING NV Green Warrior lets you keep a bunch of keys close to your left hand for easy access during FPS games on the PC. There's the standard keys that the left hand usually has access to on a standard keyboard, plus all the function (F1-F12) keys arranged in a circle.

It doesn't have the extra customizable keys that some other gaming pads we've seen do, but the addition of the O, B and K keys (which is in a strange place, we might add) does add a little something extra over the standard QWERTY keyboard. Audio keys on the side and a USB connector rounds out the rest of the functionality.

Available now for $34.99.

<![CDATA[Elecom Fancy Pants USB Pad]]>

Retro, chic, stupid, fashionable, all of the above? The JC-U1906T gamepad from Elecom is essentially all of that. It has a nice NES controller feel but with worse buttons that seem to be labeled in some kind of unknown language. The only buttons that are understandable are "Auto" and "Clear" and everyone knows those buttons are crucial for PC gaming. This might be a good pad if you are a emulator whore who really needs to feel retro-like, but for anyone else, just stick to a traditional gamepad, or better yet, the Xbox 360 controller.

<![CDATA[Ideazon Fang PC Gamepad Reviewed (Verdict: No More Futzing For Keys!)]]> Similar to the MERC Keyboard for Gamers, this gamepad is an add-on to your current keyboard to allow you to map custom key commands to an easy to reach location.

Placing 41 gaming keys within split-second reach of your left or right hand, the Fang allows you to assign commands such as switching weapons, changing armor, or casting spells so you won't have to fumble around your main keyboard in the heat of battle. Better yet, you can print out your different layouts (you can custom define profiles for each game) for easy reference.

The buttons are soft and "cushy", the software is easy to use, and the price is quite reasonable at $35. World of Warcraft and Quake players alike could benefit from the Fang.

<![CDATA[Feet On: Fitness J-Mat From XaviX]]>

Some things are a joke. The J-Mat "gaming system" from XaviX along with all their other "gaming systems" are probably the epitome of the word "joke". First off, their company name sounds like the next pill that will get your johnson up from Merck. The J-Mat is basically a toned down 1988 Nintendo Power Pad. The graphics that go along with the game are on par with NES and the gameplay is downright horrible. John forced me onto the J-Mat to try it out so you won't have to. The game was something about Jackie Chan and how he runs through a city doing absolutely nothing. You have to run in place until you find some random sign in the road. When you find the sign, you jump over by jumping in place. Woohoo. Real fun. Other feats included going around the sign, under the sign, and not running into the fucking sign. Oh, and at random times, Ninjas popped out and you'd have to slam your feet down on the pad to kill them. Do yourself a favor and avoid anything made by XaviX. You'll thank me later.

<![CDATA[Game Pad Gives You WIngs]]> If you love your cellphone games but hate using the numberpad as controls, this new Aving game pad device is small, easy to carry around and pretty comfortable to use for mobile gaming. It basically has two wings that remind me of a pinball machine that fold back on themselves to make it, as mentioned, extremely portable. A directional keypad is on its left wing while four action buttons are on the right. It weighs in at about 130 grams, operates on AAA batteries and communicates with your phone using Bluetooth.

<![CDATA[Alienware Mobile Phone Gamepad]]> I know there are hardcore gamers out there, that will do and spend anything to increase their gaming edge. I really have doubts that there are hardcore enough mobile phone gamers that actually need a gamepad to play Brick Attack, but who knows. For those diehard mobile gamers I guess Alienware heard your calling and has a new gamepad dock. This dock supports a couple of the Kyocera KX series phones for all of the Java and Brew games you can handle! It should be available later this year for $30.
