actually, it is insider trading... it is not, however, illegal. What happens is that officers, agents, or those with privileged (a.k.a. "insider") knowledge may buy and sell stock (or other securities) within a company. When they do so, however, they are required to file with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) under Form 4 (with potential for others). It happens all the time. For instance:
That should list some Google purchases and sales by Directors and Executives of the company, including institutional ownership (above certain amounts) and other potentially insider activity.
It is a misnomer in the US, and in Germany (likely other places, I am really only familiar with securities law in those two countries), to call insider trading illegal. It is not. It is illegal under a variety of circumstances when not reported accurately or honestly, but it is not, in itself, illegal.
Open public access to Form 4 filings can be found through the EDGAR SEC Database (sec.gov/edgar and edgar-online.com). The really funny thing is that there are TONS of investors that pay for these detailed reports and breakdowns, but these are all mandated as publicly available, the same as a 10-Q or 10-K filings.
Anyway, that is likely FAR more info than you were looking for. Short answer: yes, it is insider trading -- no, it is not illegal.
Not a big deal at all. Billionaires sometimes actually need some of that wealth in cash form, not equity. Congrats on the new wing of your house or whatever, Leo.
I just walked into a gamestop an hour ago and ran across that 3 for 2 deal - managed to snag some good x-mas gifts for pretty cheap. It actually makes buying used games at gamestop worth it.
This will be the third holiday season the Wii has been out. I think any supply issues at this point are inexcusable. That being said, it seems as if it won't be as much of an issue this year.
I also think that the PS3/360 fanboys who feel a need to dismiss the Wii as a gimmick and a fad are simply envious that one could get all their console gaming enjoyment at half of the price of them.
However, I did have a 360 that I enjoyed very much until it RRoD on me.
As for your second statement I have to truly LAUGH. The games for the 360 far far outshine the Wii. The Wii has about 10 solid games, the rest are garbage. The 360 has loads of games, plenty of people to play on live.
And for those of us with friends (Online ones don't count) the Wii makes a GREAT party console. I've not once seen the 360 or PS3 in use when we're over at his apartment, it's always the Wii that gets the use when people are over (Which is almost every night)
@markarian: my take is a bit different. when I have family over, they enjoy the Wii a lot. But when I'm home alone, I almost never touch it. I loved Lost Winds and I'm still waiting for the second chapter. But games like SSBB, MArio Kart and CoD4 WaW suffer because of Nintendo's goddamn retarded friend code system. It's such a hassle compared to PSN and Live that I just said "fuck it" and gave up playing on Nintendo Wifi. The sad part is playing Mario Strikers online with my nephew was actually fun until he got tired of losing...
Even so, Nintendo Wifi still doesn't let you "see" your friends online and the message system is slow as hell. Too many times, I've had messages come in only after I put the machine on Standby. Wii is the console that could have been so much more but is turning out to be "snake oil".
it's times like these that I absolutely hate Nintendo for being so behind the times and refusing to take online gaming seriously.
Oh wait, I WOULD go and pick one up, except for most of their games are crap, and the gimmick of the motion controls wears off really quickly. Maybe I can go and spend that 250$ on something that doesn't suck, like the plethora of really good games for the PS3/360 in the next few weeks.
@jdbaile3: I believe Giz had a poll not long back on whether anyone was still playing the Wii, and nearly no one was. Hopefully, for NOA's sake, most people are not aware of the fact that it has become a gimmick system.

Heh, I remember when we got ours, we snuck into the mall before it was open to be first in line at a Gamestop. This was like, 2 or 3 years ago!
