oh come on Microsoft do everyone a favour and make the adapters at least in line with the cost of a normal router! I can spend half the $80 on a normal wireless router why must you charge so much?
Aw crud, I just bought an Xbox 360 yesterday. Doesn't matter so much though, it was a discount pack with 33% off and Fable 2 + Halo 3 + extra controller included.
@neoflux: In fact, almost all credit cards have a price match feature they just don't advertise. Ask for a benefits brochure and read it. It is useful.
already have all three consoles this generation... dont play my wii very much, i just got sports resort thinking that motionplus could get me to play it. xbox is good, all my friends have 360's and mostly play halo 3 still. and i would play my PS3 more if i had more friends with one and if i had those exclusive titles like Resistance and Infamous. Im realllllly not looking forward to paying for Natal, and PS3 motion controllers.
VLC's transcoding wizard is extremely buggy and doesn't offer enough options, e.g. exact resolution tweaking. I would suggest users go with the SUPER encoder, which has enough options to be serious and easy to use at the same time.
Other than that, the PS3 also supports .m2t HDV files, which (I think) the XBOX360 doesn't. More over, the XBOX360 recommends no more than 10mbps for 1080p h.264 files, while the PS3 can easily decode higher bitrates.
@Eugenia: I've used Super a number of times to encode / re-encode video for the PS3. Works like a charm but my PC is a bit of a dog so it takes a long time for the process to complete.
I tested out Ant.com's flash video software on a friend's rig where we were able to save Flash based video to his HDD and then re-encode it with Super and then run it on his PS3. Good stuff.
TVersity is generally better, but for anyone with Media Center 2005 who doesn't want to change their habits, Transcode 360 will enable playback of unsupported file types through MCE on the XBOX 360. [www.runtime360.com]
@Zlevee: Should say that by "better" I really only meant "more compatible with various Operating Systems, and therefore useful for more people". If you have Win XP Media Center 2005, Transcode 360 might be better than TVersity.
@magikal04: I think there is alaternative called "Rivet" which is a little cheaper, and actually preservces the folder structure of your video/music/picutre libraries.
Yeah, that's the one of the things that pisses me off about Connect360. And let's say you have 2 albums named "Loveless", one is the original by "My Bloody Valentine", and the other is a tribute album by "Japancakes" .... it will put all the songs together in one folder, regardless if you searched albums by the artist. It's sloppy, and it pisses me off to no end. Still, it hasn't aggravated me enough to buy Rivet.

There's also another piece of media sharing software for the Mac/360, called "Rivet".

Another thing that chaps my hide is that Nullriver updates are mostly shit, and they're far and few in between.
Seems to me that if you want Mac/360 software that will be supported for a long time to come, Rivet is the way to go.
