Translation Device Makes International GDC Talks Possible

We've never been to the UN, or any other venue where speech needs to be translated on the fly, so we were impressed with these little translation headphones at GDC. They have two interpreters in the back translating the talks on the fly (see my Loco Roco coverage), feeding directly into these wireless headsets. This may be old hat for you guys, but it made us feel like we were in the future for at least a few seconds.

Cuddlebear Jason Chen is at the Game Developers Conference right now, and he's gearing up to cover Miyamoto-san's keynote address and the rest of the Nintendo keynote. Me, I'm hoping for old school Square RPGs (Chrono Trigger, anyone?) on the Wii's Virtual Console, but I'm not holding my breath. More »

Rumor Overheard at GDC: Next-Gen Zune Available in August

This is horribly irresponsible rumor-mongering, but we over heard this tidbit about the Zune over at GDC. Apparently, if the person was correct and our ears didn't fail us, the next-gen Zune will be available in August. Unfortunately for the first-gen Zune team, the next version will feature gaming, which is supposedly making them feel dejected over working on a product (1st gen) that will be "abandoned". More »

The N-Gage is Back, Baby

Oh yeah, the video game playing taco phone is back, kind of. It is "highly likely" that the N-Gage software platform will be announced at the Game Developer's Conference. It saddens me to say that the taco phone will not be relaunched, rather Nokia will be releasing the N-Gage software platform to likely work with their N-series phones. Good luck with that, Nokia. Nice to see you haven't given up. More »
