Calling me a geek is fine. Preferable actually. Calling me a nerd, not so smart. That'll get you clean and jerked. At least you'll learn how painful potential energy can be!!! #geeks
@TheSonOfKrypton: Wouldn't it be kinetic energy? Unless you're suggesting raising the person you're attacking and keeping them at that height... #geeks
@MarcusMaximus: Nope. Ultimately it would be internal energy. Potential to kinetic to internal = HI PAIN! But it starts out as potential and transforms, that's what I was referring to.
@Jrsy Devil's Advocate®: I don't know if having a Mac or iPod is really geeky at all. I see everyone from 4 year olds to sorority girls rocking Apple products, so I don't really see where the "geek" factor comes in at all. #geeks
@mattycakes: They're still gadgets, regardless of whom the majority of the consumer base is. Also Apple products are quite popular 'round these parts in case you hadn't noticed. #geeks
@mattycakes: I agree. The reason why most people I ask say they have purchased their Mac products is because they are cool. Cool != Geeky. You can't have it both ways guys. #geeks
JRefleX93 has more going on in his life than pathetic gadget whores on Gizmodo who get off on anonymously pissing on someone with undeniable talent. From an interview:
7. Do you play any consoles besides the Wii?
"No, just Wii. I'm not serious enough about gaming to have a PS3 or 360."
I am not going to feed any particular troll, as that way they don't show up in the featured comments, but....
The kid is skilled. Regardless of whether you think it would be more cool if he played a real guitar, or didn't get a perfect, or any number of other things, the boy certainly has an ability that many, nay, most, of us do not.
Could he play the cello and be the next Yo-Yo Ma? Possibly. Could he sit in his bedroom solving for the area under an infinite curve and doing researching into a cure for cancer? Maybe.
What many fail to realize is that most people with exceptional skills, such as this young man, probably don't have to spend inordinate amounts of time to pull off something such as this. They have ability that most of us lack. Does that mean that this youtube video is going to be the piece de resistance of this boy's creative and constructive endeavors? Hopefully not. He may flame out, but I am guessing he is probably going to be involved with something down the road, be it videogame designer, movie director, or math superstar, that will improve our lives.
Keep doing what your doing kid, and give me a shout-out in the liner notes when you show these tool boxes that playing guitar hero with your elbow isn't the pinnacle of your talent, but only an indicator.
This may be my longest post on the Giz yet! Sorry.
What creepy parallel universe do Giz editors live in that they constantly associate stupid geek tricks with getting young girls. It would be merely laughable if it weren't so damn creepy. The article claiming that those cat ear headphones would do the same thing was weirder, but still...
@nbolmer: Maybe you went to a traditional public school where laziness and irrational rebellion are bred and worshipped; but at many schools, most of them private or a rare exceptional public school, skills and effort are actually valued. These kids more commonly understand that they can't petition government for every need and want(cause it's not taught to them), so they value things that actually matter.
I went to a public school(wasting four years playing football banging my head into other people), but many of my "geeky" friends at private school had no trouble getting laid. Hopefully, the widening income gap will focus female crotches on intelligence.
@D.E.P.C. is on a Sexpedition:
You're kidding right? Irrational rebellion is bred...nay WORSHIPED at public school... that's eye-rollingly stupid. I suppose that's why the Columbine incident never happened.
Petition the government? You think kids in school are PETITIONING the GOVERNMENT for "every need and want"
Holy jellybeans! You're on some sort of space-crack!
I never wrote congress to get me Super Mario 3 (I'm dating myself). What a politicization of a TOTALLY unpolitical comment!
And being a geek isn't mutually exclusive with getting laid, clearly.
My POINT, if you'd bother to actually read, than go on utterly tangential, borderline schizophrenic rants which have NOTHING to do with the comment you reply to --(deep breath)-- you'd realize that I was mocking Giz editors bizarre belief that video games and puzzles (even when done together!) aren't exactly chick bait, (private school or otherwise!). Yes, geeks do fine with women, but it's usually not a flock of them coming to watch you play ... oh what's the use. I'll just go ahead and "petition the government" to make you get it! That's what EVERYONE does in public school!
@nbolmer: Your response is funny even if you act like you can't separate implicit exaggerations like "every" from their intent. Or that, when that there are differences between things, you think I mean there are no exceptions.
I totally misused your comment as a springboard for mine, but I think you overstated how little value people place in arcane skill development(you elaborate and clear up my misunderstanding in the more recent comment though). Not to mention I was having discussions about this crap in another thread.
So whats the reason for the mirror? To keep all the other screen effects out so he can just focus on the buttons? Either way though pretty impressive, but no whammy bar?
I was watching his eyes as he was doing it, and he is an amazing kid with great concentration.
Better yet, I finally got to see Guitar Hero and how it was played. Its kinda cool. I can see why you guys like it. Something like that might actually get me to try gaming. But probably not. ;)
@Curves: That's your first exposure to Guitar Hero? I know Giz has had a few GH related posts in the past, I would've thought you'd have to intentially be dodging it.
@Jux: I never saw it on screen, or knew how it worked, no. I am not a gamer, I am all about business applications and am a major information junkee, but no interest in video games, and usually dont even look at those posts. I opened this one to see the nutcase with the cubes. I dont have anything against gaming, some of my best buds here are way into it, its just not my thing, but GH did look cool.
@Curves: I am a gamer, but my wife is not. She played GH at a party, and fell in love with it. Now I have to book my xbox a few days in advance, just so I can get some screen time. You should try it sometime, it is fun.
