Shouldn't you try the product before bashing it? This is a well-read tech journal. Imagine if everyone on Amazon gave a product one star without trying it, but assumed that it was inferior based on the description.

@Hello Mister Walrus: Thanks for the clarification of what Gizmodo is: "A well-read tech journal." Please keep in mind that I do actually write for the site and probably have a grasp as to our particular editorial perspective.

I'm not here to sell gadgets sugarcoated in marketing speak and unwarranted benefit of the doubt, nor is any writer on Giz. We offer opinions and predictions based upon looking at and testing countless other gadgets in the space. Now had I said, THIS LOOKS AWESOME, it would have been a lie for the variety of reasons I listed in the piece.

I am not Amazon and I did not call this a review. Not every post will be heralding a piece of technology, nor should they be.

@Mark Wilson: I agree, and I've always appreciated that Gizmodo maintains a light-hearted attitude in its articles. The question for me is really, at what point do your articles become material to the products that you write about? For instance, if the New York Times were to publish an article like this, the sales of the Genius G-Shot camera would probably be affected. Does Gizmodo have the same effect, and should we care if it does?

Granted, Gizmodo and the NYT have difference readership bases and purposes. However, at some point in the growth of your website, it might be worth considering the ramifications of things you speculate about, even if the intention is to be playful and entertaining.

But of course, I am a humble commenter and will not presume to tell you how to write your articles. I've always found my overall experiences with Gizmodo to be good ones.

yeah, it'll shoot crappy HD and take crappier stills. i am not excited right along with you Mark. and i think it's kinda ugly.
