The thought of living in a house made of bricks that smell of spoiled milk is less than appealing. In this case its not location, location, location, its lactation, lactation, lactaion.
With each new president they always upgrade these things. I'd imagine they're using the Topkick for more security and legroom. It also seems to be part of a general trend to migrate security limousines from long flat cars to stubby Chevy Suburban type SUVs. But whatever they craft out of it will resemble a tank more than a Topkick when they get done with it.
interesting... level 8 protection can take five hits from an ak, and is only 2.5 inches thick. I wonder if they are trying to stop a .50 cal? Also, at 2.5 in thick, it comes in at 25 pounds a sq/ft.
@sqeakytoy of the apocalypse: Considering a 50 cal round can have as much gunpowder in it as a hand grenade, and they can be lethal from a mile away, I'm guessing a 50 cal is in the list of concerns.
All POTUS have EXTREMELY armored and commo equipped Caddies back to the seventies. I am willing to bet the Topkick will be able to handle the armor plate that can handle an IED and RPG from ANY angle. The sick thing is the fact that we now have a POTUS that is very different, and as we all know, people usually want to poke different with a stick. In Obama's ride however, the Secret Service wish to make sure there isn't a stick big enough.
@Kevin: I've heard that, But I'm not so sure. I mean, if something did happen to the President, all hell would break loose. The whole government would fall on whatever group was responsible. What group wants to have all that heat on them. I hate to say it, but if people think 9/11 was an inside job to get laws passed, what kind of laws do you think the first assassination of a half minority President would lead to? I think if something does happen, or someone does try stuff, it will be lone kooks, like the ones who tried to kill Bush 43 with cactus needles tipped with E. Coli shot from modified cigarette lighters. There's always some nutty people out there who DO NOT represent humanity as a whole.
@RandySinger: I love McCain, but all our presidents get Cadillacs. I just hope those brothers pull up their pants!! Oh yes, and ask the emos to lighten up on the ball hugging pants.
@shamoononon has a hebetudinous dog ★★★...: And our astronauts used to get vettes. They don't anymore though. Which is sad. I mean, what if crazy astronaut lady had a vette? She wouldn't have needed so many space diapers.
@unibrow4o9: From what I understand, they were gifts/promos. Nowadays though, who would recognize an astronaut in an ad? The last astronaut I saw in an ad was in one of the new MS I'm a PC. I doubt anyone could pick Story Musgrave out in a crowd.
@codemagic: Me thinks someone hasn't thought about how long it takes alternative energy sources to become "carbon neutral". By that I mean how long does it take a solar panel generating electricity before it saves more carbon/etc than it took to build. And don't forget all the land that will need to be cleared to build transmission lines. And all the substations with their transformers, etc....
I may hate Al Gore, but I have to take my hat off to him for his whole carbon credit/offset scheme. How else can you make idiots pay you so they pollute, and feel good about it? He is a magnificent bastard.
@Comrade GadgetPlay, Fellow Traveler: Look at the money he pulls in with his carbon credit scam. That is magnificent. He then places the money in a "lockbox". It would have two different locks. Now, one of the keys to the "lockbox" would be kept by the President; the other key would be sealed in a small, metal container and placed under the bumper of the Senate Majority Leader's car. The "lock-box" would also be camouflaged. Now, to all outward appearances, it would be a Leatherbound edition of Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas. But it wouldn't be. It would be the "lock-box". You may think you know the location of the "lock-box". Maybe you do. Or maybe that's a decoy. Or a dummy "lock-box". Only the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, myself and Tipper are gonna know for sure.
@Git Em SteveDave loves this guy-->: You're right. We shouldn't change our ways if it will take a "long time" to become carbon neutral. We should just stick with the same ol'fossil-fuel-burning generators/vehicles which will NEVER become carbon neutral.
As for the carbon overhead of clearing land for alternative energey, I'm not sure there will need to be tons of land cleared for things like thermal solar which will largely go out in desert regions which are already deforested. If the promise of thermal solar plays out, this could be the main driver to move us off of coal and oil entirely.
The 'carbon offset' of which I spoke was a metaphoric offset of the amount of carbon released by the decisions made by one administration vs another...but anyhoo.
@codemagic: You made the statement that having a Democrat in the office would instantly produce an offset. I never said we shouldn't change our ways.
I wasn't even talking about the land for the power source. What about the land for transmission lines? And the sub stations. I for one don't like the idea of having a huge expanse of solar panels in Arizona or wherever powering many states. All it took in 2003 was one tree to cripple NYC and a large part of the North East. Also, what happens when a storm system or something parks over these solar plants? While not an expert, what does the impending climate change forecast in the way of clouds. Will there be more clouds, or less clouds?
I am all for some alternative power. But I think Nuclear Power is the way to go. America is not going to lessen it's energy demands. By the time we go and build these huge tracts of wind farms and solar, we may outgrow what they can provide. What then? Wait to build more while the country demands more? The modern reactors are generations ahead of what we use today. If countries like France have no problem with them, why should we? They produce less waste than current reactors, and the current ones aren't getting any younger. If we can phase out the old plants in favor of newer plants, and add to the amount in the US, we can meet and exceed our energy demands when we add in alternative energy, and also save the environment by producing less waste. Putting all your eggs in the alternative energy basket is just as bad as putting them all into the coal/nuclear basket. A mixture of the two is a smart bet.
Ahh, speaking of HDTVs, I've been looking to get one. Lets say I were to get one right now for less than $1000 and at least 40 inches, what should i do? Where should I look? And what do you think of DLP TVs? If it's huge and clunky, that's fine with me. This one from Amazon looks good. And so does this Best Buy one. Only $900 for 50in and 1080p
@Krymzon40: I love my DLP. Best picture quality of any hdtv I have had. It's a great way to get a good quality picture and more screen real estate without breaking the bank. Go to AVSforums.com and look up threads on the models you are particularly interested in to get an idea of what problems to look for and how prevalent they are in certain models. Keep in mind that there are enough people using those forums that you will see problems with EVERY model of tv. The idea is to guage just how common those problems are.
Just go in there on the last day the store is still operating and, if there's anything left, point to a TV you like and offer them 100 bucks for it. If they balk, raise your offer to 200. If they still balk, offer 300 dollars. If they still balk, tell them to go screw themselves and walk away. It'll be fun.

He can use the mobile launch pad for the space shuttle and we'll still come out ahead from a 'drill baby drill' administration.
