Oh, although it's a cumbersome solution if you can get your 360 plugged into a computer with wireless you can get it online that way. It's a little fiddly as you have to set up a shared connection for it but it's a cheaper alternative to a dedicated adaptor. It works for PS3's too, which is useful if you want to connect your PSP to your PS3 via adhoc and don't have access to a wired connection.

Just to note any sort of wireless bridge will do the same job as MS's wireless adaptor too. #gizmodoremainders

So, since there has been no solid info on this peice of mythware why does it have several Major articles on Giz and its own banner Graphic. This product IF it exists and IF it is ever realeased is likely to be the most disappointing peice of tech ever, not because it will be bad (It's an Apple product, so thats unlikely) but just because it will be unable to live up to the hype. #gizmodoremainders

Agreed. I can't stand the Apple tablet right now because of all the hype surrounding it. People are treating it like the 2nd coming of Christ because it's rumoured he might be passing through. Then it'll turn out it's just Jesus's slightly weird cousin Al. I mean Al will probably be a cool fun guy once you get to know him, but he'll be no messiah.

But as much as I hate to add to the flock of bleating sheep you can tell where Gizmodos corporate allegiances lie when they put so much emphasis on a product that's bordering on fictitious. #gizmodoremainders

I don't find anything that odd about the general premise of there being different tablets with different connections.

I imagine that VZW will offer one for their network, AT&T one for theirs, and the generic one that comes from the apple store would only have wi-fi. Or maybe the device will have the guts for 3G (various bands) and wi-fi and you just pick a carrier.

Maybe not. Now that I typed it out it does seem complicated but I could see it. #gizmodoremainders

@tande04: I don't know about the whole "pick your own carrier" thing, but I'm sure they will be tied to at least one carrier, sort of like 3G netbooks are now. However, there are models of netbooks without 3G, like my Asus Eee that are wi-fi only and are not tied to a carrier.

Where have I seen this from Apple before...iPhone/iPod Touch...? Hmmmm.....

Apple isn't going to "confuse consumers". I'm siding with the analysts in my beliefs about the Apple tablet on this one. I believe one model will have 3g with (most likely) AT&T, and one with just wi-fi.

Some consumers NEED internet everywhere. That's what the 3G model is for. However, I'm sure Apple knows that a HUGE customer base simply won't be attracted to ANOTHER contract on top of their iPhone, which is why they will opt for the non-3G model (as I know I will).

When you think about it, it makes more sense to have two models than just one 3G-only model.

Or maybe Apple will cater to the consumer and let you just insert your SIM to pick your carrier, like every GSM device should be... #gizmodoremainders

@ovil200: There were 3G notebooks and netbooks that were sold without being tied to a carrier well before the carriers started subsidizing them.

My notebook at my old job had a VZW chip in it, just not activated. If you go to customize a laptop you almost always get that choice as well. You pay full price (no subsidy) but you're not locked into anything. Seems like the carriers are starting to get more comfortable with the idea of being just a pipeline.

The only problem might be how much bulk both (three?) cards take up in the tablet. #gizmodoremainders

Dan, you know I love you and all, but I'm just not sure I'm comfortable with an ass-slap.

Also, if the Apple Tablet will keep a girlfriend from leaving, will it get me one. My couch needs a cuddle buddy and I think I'd be willing to pay the Apple tax for one. #gizmodoremainders

Wow. Between not selling Nooks at their brick and mortar stores, and now this, B&N seems to be going out of their way to make this difficult. Given the tenuous footing of ebooks, this seems particularly dumb.

KEEP your spent giftcards, recharge them at the store, don't just throw them away.

You can usually ask the cashier to have the card back. If they resist, simply tell them that you plan to recharge it at a later date.

@zanella: I collect them, which requires I add $5 to them initially. The Camera one was preset at $50. I get my prescriptions filled at Target, so I usually put my prescriptions in, get my gift cards, then go back to the pharmacy, and pay w/the gift cards. I have a good collection so far.

@Necromatik: Well, I am single, so you could be right. But from what I remember, collecting gift cards wasn't on the list she gave me. Dis-organized, not ambitious, and lack of libido were the top three. As to her list to me, I always remember this quote:

How about a gift that shows a little thought?

Personally, given the disposability of gadgets nowadays, I tend to avoid gifting people with gadgets. Girlie has gotten jewelry from me and my mom gets either books or cookware.

@OMG! Ponies!: This year I am trying to find a gracious way of giving cash as a gift. I don't like gift cards in that some DO have fees, and tie you to one store. The gift credit cards are good, but you have to pay to get them, they almost all have maintenance fees after ~6-10 months, and it's a pain to check the balance/have a place only charge $4.27 towards a bill.

I think cash is better in today's economy, as not only can you deposit it in a bank, but unlike a check, you can just stick it in your pocket as well. I know when we were all kids, we never minded getting cash as a present. Does anyone have a suggestion of like a card I could print up to include in the larger card explaining this a little more eloquently?
