They've put out a beta BIOS that addresses the problem. Unfortunately, that doesn't help all the Asus and MSI users who are having the same troubles, but hopefully now that Gigabyte has set an example the others will follow.

If you're one of the unlucky few, hit the link to grab the update. [Gigabyte via PC World]

<![CDATA[Windows 7 and Intel Chipset Causing iPhone Woes?]]> Users on Apple's discussion board have been experiencing issues with their PCs locking out iPhones when using Windows 7 with the Intel P55 USB chipset. It's a pretty specific combo that you're probably not running, so don't panic.

The thread is only five pages long, but multiple users are claiming the exact same "0xE8000065" error message when trying to sync their data. The issue appears on P55-based motherboards from Asus, MSI and Gigabyte, and it seems like Windows 7 64-bit is more prone to the problem than its 32-bit brother.

Keep in mind the P55 is a new chipset, and unless you're computer is brand-spankin' new or you're the DIY type, chances are you have a setup that works perfectly fine.

If you do have a new P55-based motherboard, Microsoft is looking into the issue. Hopefully a fix for you unlucky few will come soon enough. [The Register via Engadget]

<![CDATA[Gigabyte's 3G-Capable MID M528 Coming Out On Sept 17 For $689]]> A release date and price has been set for UMPC contender Gigabyte's MID M528, a diminutive portable computer with a slide out keyboard, according to the folks over at UMPC Portal. A product page on Gigabyte's site put the cost at $689 and availability on Sept. 17. The page then disappeared, but not before intrepid internet surfers could get a nice screen grab.

The M528 contains a 4.8 inch screen with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, a 800 Mhz Intel Atom, 512 MB RAM, roughly 4GB of storage space, and an 11 hour battery in a case that weighs about three quarters of a pound. It also boasts 3G, which makes it a possible replacement for the Nokia N810 if you think 3G's worth paying over double for. [UMPC Portal]

<![CDATA[Gigabyte M912 Spotted, Photographed, Drooled Upon]]> We'll probably hear finalized details tomorrow when it's officially unveiled at Computex tomorrow, but here's the first shot of the Gigabyte M912. An 8.9" convertable touchscreen laptop packing an Atom processor, it's supposed to be another promising entrant to the lightweight, budget laptop ring. Hopefully we'll know just how budget Gigabyte means within the week. [engadget China via engadget]

<![CDATA[Giga-Byte GSmart Windows Mobile Phones Have a Fancy Smart Touch UI]]> It took a year for Giga-Byte to follow in HTC's footsteps, but the upcoming GSmart Windows Mobile smartphones will have a brand new UI on top of the standard WinMo affair. The interface is called "Smart Touch," and will be more finger-friendly—more oriented toward gestures and finger-navigation—lending itself to launching your commonly used programs directly from the home screen. The Chinese version of this has been available since April, but suffers from some incompatibility issues that most likely won't be in the European release version coming sometime after May. <![CDATA[Gigabyte M700 UMPC Has 2 GB RAM, 7-Inch Touchscreen]]> Just unveiled at CeBIT, Gigabyte's M700 UMPC comes with a surprising 2GB RAM. In addition to its hefty memory and bright design, the M700 manages to pack in a 7-inch, 1024x600 touchscreen and a 1.2 GHz Via C7-M processor. It also has Windows Vista Home Premium. Details on pricing and release are hush-hush at this point. [Ubergizmo]

<![CDATA[Gigabyte Releases Second-Generation UMPC]]> When Gigabyte released their first UMPC, the U60, there was plenty to like, including the split keyboard. With the M704, Gigabyte is essentially releasing a refreshed U60 with a new look, a slightly bigger screen and a beefed-up processor. The second-gen UMPC will have a 1.2 GHz VIA processor, 768 MB of RAM, 40-60 GB HDD, a 7" screen and a three-hour battery life. Availability and pricing for the M704 is still hazy at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it priced in the same range as the U60. [Crave]

<![CDATA[Visuals USB Gauge Blurs Automobile and PC Energies]]> If statistics concerning the operating wattage, temperature and fan speed of your PC's power supply gets you excited, Gigabyte's Visuals USB gauge shall be right up your street. The device is capable of measuring all three, while simultaneously making your desktop look like your dashboard, and if that is not the very pinnacle of being cool, who knows what is?

The USB gauge is specifically designed with Gigabyte's Odin GT power supplies in mind, and stands 48 mm x 62mm x 104mm. Those with other power supply units need not apply, as the Visuals USB gauge is only partial to Gigabyte's own goodies. What a snob. Pricing details not yet released. [Everything USB]

<![CDATA[Gigabyte U60 UMPC Suffers from Broken Keyboard Syndrome]]> Love it or hate it, Gigabyte's first UMPC sports a broken QWERTY keyboard design (kinda like Samsung's Q1 Ultra). Personally, I'm not a fan of the broken keyboard (they feel awkward), but then again I have big paws. The UMPC will also feature a ridiculously small touchpad (the little box below the screen on the bottom right side) and a 800x480, 6.5-inch display. All of it'll be powered by a 1GHz VIA CPU. Despite the keyboard, it's a nice debut for Gigabyte, though we would have liked it even more if it packed WWAN (it only has Wi-Fi).

<![CDATA[Gigabyte Prepping its First Slider UMPC with Keyboard]]> If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Sony must be red in the face right about now. Looking like a bigger version of the UX390, Gigabyte will debut its first UMPC next month at CeBit. Dubbed the U60, the handheld will come with a built-in QWERTY keyboard that slides out of the main body (like the UX390). Also on board is a 6.5-inch screen, which is bigger than Sony's 4.5-inch display, but a tad smaller than the 7-inch LCD found on Asus' R2H. Pricing hasn't been set yet, though more details should arrive as the launch date nears.

<![CDATA[Gigabyte gSmart i128 Multi-Lingual Smartphone]]> gsmart.jpgOnce you weed through all the corporate Newspeak, to combine two different things, you'll realize that the gSmart i128 is a Windows Mobile 5.0-powered smartphone with its main feature being useful for only a small percentage of people out there. That is, it's mulit-lingual, supposedly a coup for businessmen. And here I thought English was the lingua franca of business. It has many of the features that users of smartphones have come to expect, like Wi-Fi, analog TV reception, a camera (2.1-meapixels) and the assortment of Microsoft applications that businesses rely on, rightly or wrongly.

Its multi-linugal capabilities are the result of a collaboration between Gigabyte and Alta Vista's Babel Fish. It supposedly lets users do exciting things like search for stock prices in as many as 98 different languages.

The gSmart i128 is supposedly identical to the Taiwan-only sSmart-i, pictured here. No word on price, though.

<![CDATA[Gigabyte Keroro Frog Phone For Kids]]> On our recent trip to Japan we discovered that every man, woman, child, pokemon and dog has a phone. When babies are born, the DoCoMo ritual birthing process involves inserting a phone...well, we'll spare you the details. Suffice it to say, they get'm early.

It's no surprise that Gigabyte is making this Keroro phone "based on Keroro Gunso, a Japanese manga and anime that tells the story of Earth being invaded by a race of extraterrestrial frogs." This green phone is targeted toward kids, but has enough juice in it with its 128MB of storage and attached camera on the back. Not at all like the gimped Firefly phones in the States.

Gigabyte's only making 2,000 of these, so if you're a ambphibi-phile you'd better hurry before Kermit-lovers beat you to it.

<![CDATA[Gigabyte g-YoYo All-in-One Cellphone]]>

From the land of Godzilla comes word of Gigabyte's latest all-in-one cellphone, the g-YoYo. Now, I don't know if the name is supposed to be some sort of play on words vis-à-vis the hip hop culture, but it certainly is an attention getter, for better or worse. Just like every other all-in-one cellphone, the g-YoYo tries to pack in nearly every function you could ever ask for in its diminutive shell. There's a two megapixel camera—as noted by the hulking "2M" near the lense—and the phone doubles an an MP3 player. Additionally, the g-yoyo throws in GPS for good measure, ensuring that you'll never get lost while listening to Winger and calling your homies.

The 176 x 220-pixel color display shows off all those cool games you're likely to play. Of course, as with many things from Japan, there's no information as of yet relating to price or availability.

<![CDATA[Gigabyte g-Smart i120]]> It looks like Gigabyte is starting a whole like of smartphones with the g-Smart monicker. This new Computex-revealed g-Smart i120 runs on the now-common Windows Mobile 5.0 and has a 240x320 pixel, 2.4-inch touch screen interface, but lacks a QWERTY keyboard. The navigation pad is to the right of the number keys, but instead of a "t" shape, the buttons are located in the corners—strange for nav-buttons.

Some of its other features: 256MB internal memory, 64MB RAM, miniSD support, FM tuner, TV tuner, 2.0 megapixel camera, MP3/AAC playback and Java support. For connectivity, the i120 has 802.11g, Bluetooth, IR, and mini USB (1.2 only).

No word on availability or pricing.

<![CDATA[Nokia 6270 Clone - The Gigabyte g-Smart i]]> Gigabyte, the Chinese PC and parts manufacturer, decided to expand into the smartphone market with the g-Smart i. Instead of going through all that pesky "product development", ol' Gigster just decided to clone a Nokia 6270.

Running Windows Mobile 5, the g-Smart i has a whole mess of features the Nokia does not:

2.1-megapixel camera, MiniSD card slot, 2.4-inch TFT touch screen display, FM tuner, GPS navigation system (optional), TV tuner (optional), and support for a host of audio/video files (MP3/MPEG-4/3GPP/WMV).

Goes on sale for $262 USD.

<![CDATA[Gigabyte g-Smart Windows Smartphone Drops]]> Know what I like about the g-Smart Windows Mobile Smartphone? It has an FM tuner (old school) and a TV (future-iffic!) built-in. The jet black design packs 802.11b WiFi, a QVGA 65k color screen, 2.1MP camera with video recording, and a miniSD slot for additional storage. It can also do push e-mail like a Blackberry. This one might even make its way over to US shores, but don't put your order in just yet.

<![CDATA[Barbie Phone, For Grown Women?]]> barbie.jpg

I can't tell if Gigabyte's Barbie handset is meant for little girls or grown women. I mean, it's pink and seems to have a poodle etched into the back cover (along with a good-sized speaker to play music from the built-in MP3 player), but it's got some pretty high-end features like a megapixel camera (can't figure out how many from the Chinese website), SD card slot for extra memory and a large 176x220-pixel screen size. It's a slider phone, which I dig, and it supports GPRS, WAP and Java. Either way, it's certainly different.

Begging for an ass kicking from your pals? Grab the Doraephone. Based on the GIGABYTE gx-5 (not to mention the manga comic about a robotic blue cat from the future who has a pocket to the fourth-dimension in his stomach) this phone is decked out in all things annoying. Don't fret though. Even if you do want it, the Doraephone is only going to be available in Taiwan. Move along.

<![CDATA[Gigabyte G-X5 - It's Not Just For Motherboards Anymore]]> Gigabyte, makers of all things motherboardish, are diving into the plethora of mobile phone manufacturers with the new G-X5 phone and also a PDA phone. Gigabyte Communications is the actual manufacturer of this phone, a subsidiary of the motherboard makers. The G-X5 will contain all of the standard bells and whistles of modern mobile phones. These are planned for release in Taiwan and I wonder if they're going to make in an extremely brutal mobile phone market. There was a rumble between Nokia and Samsung last night, for example. Pony Boy got a black eye.
