I run a small office and am in need of something like this, so I think that come September, I will start a serious evaluation to see which better suits my needs.
The "second analog" complaint is driving me nuts. This a redesign, not a new PSP. Adding a second analog stick to any revision of the current PSP would split the market in two, something that would be absolutely stupid on Sony's part.
I think the big question for me about this device is the ease of which you can get games on it. I have the standard PSP, and there is a store, but it does not carry the same games that I can find at the GameStop - yet. I am also not entirely certain the interface for the PSP Store is ideally suited to the task.
If they would have put the 2nd stick in place of the start select and put them up above them in that wide open empty space then this would have been solid gold.
I have an iPhone that I can already play games badly on, why would I want to carry around another device that does the same thing?
Always been curious why the PSP gets hate for having only one Analog Stick, but the DS(i) doesn't get hate for having any. I never felt the touch screen emulates 2 analog sticks all that well.
@Reapman: You see, the original PSP controller had 2 analog sticks, from the beginning, and it would make sense for the portable version have two right? The games are pretty much the same, well most anyway, and have the same basic controls, but for shooters, its much better with two sticks, the DSi or DS doesn't have any titles that are really made for analog sticks.
@Harsha Maddula: The original PSP only had one analog stick. And the DS doesn't have any titles made for an analog stick because the DS doesn't have an analog stick. FPS like the Metroid Prime game would be better suited with dual analog sticks though.
@Solertia: A 2nd analog stick would have made that price worth the entrance. Instead, we get a slim version of Sonys least popular game player, with a smaller screen and no real growth on the existing product.
I guess Sony gave up when Microsoft entered the console wars.
@Project_J187: Agree wholeheartedly about the second analog stick sentiment. I would have dropped 250 samoleons on this thing if it had a second analog stick.
What about older titles, will they be available for download, or is it only 'going forward' library wise? I don't have a PSP due to having a DS, but this actually sounds appealing, especially if older games I've wanted are out and about digitally.
@macabron: Really. For all the guff people gave the iPhone's virtual keyboard, no one mentions how craptacular typing on a PSP is. The last time I used the browser, by the time it was done rendering the page, I knew I hated what I was using.
@Kaiser-Machead: I think that's a fair assessment. The PSP's browser is virtual unusable imho. Though I have a release version of the PSP and haven't updated the firmware past whatever came with Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, but the browser was unusable in all versions before that. And the "keyboard" sucks. Although I do find the PSP comfortable to hold and use. It looks like the GO won't be though :c /
I think it's cool that they managed to get that pair of hidden smart-toggles on there and...hey what the fuck?
Actually, this doesn't look as bad as I thought it would, but there's still some serious Sony Mylo action going on here. It was smart to keep the UMD, only because users who happen to like their current titles would not have to have two friggin' PSP's. Too bad the format itself is a wank.
