Soooo what did Street View do? They could of just went ahead and called the VA police and give them the coordinates and if they were from a GPS (cell phone) it would put them with in three meters from the phone...I bet that would of took them to the motel too.

@dontTouch: I think the point Paradise was trying to make was that cell phone triangulation doesn't have pinpoint accuracy and the the police were able to use the maps to wisely verified that there was in fact a potential hide-out location in the vicinity and direct their counterparts in VA to that likeliest of spots. Also it helped verify that it wasn't a bad lead, or a case of the phone being dumped by the side of the road.

OK, don't get me wrong -- in this case, I'm glad she had it, but 9-year-olds do not need cell phones.

But yeah, that's pretty cool. This'll lead to a new Law & Order show where everything is done via Google, I predict.

@godwhacker: Yeah, I do. I also listened and read news quoting people from NBC saying that eliminating 5 hours of primetime scripted programs will save them a lot of money, especially after their recent batch of shows didn't do too well.

The stars of the shows getting canceled weren't too happy, like Richard Belzer:[www.comcast.net]

My six year old has a cell phone. Admitedly it can only call the numbers we pre-loaded (one for me, one for my wife, one for the home phone, one for the grandparents, and one for emergancy), is locked out from accepting any calls NOT from those pre-programmed numbers, AND has a built in GPS that we can check online at anytime... It actually is great as we can check when school lets out and see when they got on the bus and when they got to their babysitter's house, and they can call if something happens or they get lost. There is alot of use, with the right phone, that a kid can have for it.

@mltdwn: OK, the GPS thing I can see, and something like what you're describing isn't terrible, but a lot of people give their children full-on cell phones when they don't need them.
