Hrrrem. I've been pretty liberal with how much of my info Google gets. But this even makes me a little nervous. I'm glad Latitude only lets people you specifically invite see info, but I'd definitely like to see some way to manually toss the data before opting in to something like this.
Edit: RTFA, OC. "Of course, you can always delete selected history or your entire location history at any time." Thank you, Google.
Edit2: "Your history will not be visible publicly or to your Latitude friends." Ok, I feel tons better. Thank you again, Google.
Of course, I also have exactly zero friends who use anything like this. Heck, I only enabled Latitude when heading out on a trip so a few friends could keep up with where I was. Maybe I'd see the useful side of this if more people I know used Latitude.
@MxPxRobbie: That's just a myth that they started! The foil actually strengthens the signal and makes it easier for them to find you! #googlelatitudelocationalerts
I'll add my 'thanks' for this post. As a long time WiMo user, the lack of love for it (and some of the really stupid comments that show people really don't have a clue) has been disappointing.
There are thousands and thousands of WiMo apps out there.
@mullingitover: WM has been doing Google Voice for a while now with some XDA developed apps.
It only got popular due to Apple blocking it, and the official release by Google for BB/Android.
See, because I don't have an iPhone and don't pay attention to much of this stuff, I was thinking Google Voice must be some type of really nifty voice dialing app. Then I go and find out it's nothing as useful as that. So what's the big fucking deal?
@stan-the-man: Few things in this world piss me off as much as internationals complaining about an American based site talking about American based issues. Just scroll to the next article.
That being said, Apple's App Store craptastic policies, while in this instance affect a (CURRENTLY) American-based service, affect all iPhone users, not just American.
@Dorv: How do you feel about an American-based website that continually passes judgement on an Asian company (Foxconn, if you haven't noticed)? Is that okay?
@Ultraorange: I've wanted a supported OS X build for home built PCs since x86 support was announced. I curse Apple for their craptastic stance on OS X availability. I guess I'll have to go the hackintosh route, because I ain't plunking down my hard earned cash for their overpriced desktops or laptops.

Isn't that how all seemingly-sycophantic minions end up controlling their masters and gaining power? #googlelatitudelocationalerts

@MxPxRobbie: Yes, as met2art pointed out, and #RosaRocks never denies, Aluminum/tin foil does not work. What you need is a Velostat hat, like my lovely assistant above is wearing! [io9.com] #googlelatitudelocationalerts

When you really think about that. Beyond the scope of free SMS, it can almost make some sort of sense, But Google latitude? i don't get it.

And what about hunger in Asia? Or hunger in the US, for that matter?
