    That really is the point of tasers - a [usually] non-lethal alternative to the generally lethal bullet. The problems with tasers occur when various law enforcement officers decide that tasers are an alternative to a stern talking-to, or an arm-bar hold. #taser

    @FrankenPC: They also don't usually have to live with the fear of being shot like cops in the US do. It also appears that the UK cops are quite handy with their truncheons, even the medics like to get in on that action.

    @FrankenPC: Some may, but you don't have to worry about everyone having a gun like here in the US.

    Some statistics for comparison.

    In 2008, there were 455 injured or killed in gun related crimes in the UK, equivalent to 1 per every 133,942 people in the UK. In 2008 in the US, there were 303,880 firearm incidents, or 1 per every 1,000 people in the US.

    We don't call these things "non-lethal" we call them less than lethal because there's always that chance. But I tell you what, it's a hell of a lot nicer option than a 5.56

    @jurrasix: I don't think that CoD allows you to waterboard the terrorists for information, so what would be the point of stunning them? Just double-tap and move on, just like in reality.

    I was thinking this would be good for stopping unwilling (yes, it does happen) would-be suicide bombers from a safe distance, but then if the bomb has electrical det caps.... #taser

    Like usual, people confuse "non-lethal" with "less than lethal". Items like these are "less than lethal", like rubber bullets, bean bag rounds, stun grenades, etc... The problem is reporters stupidly call then non-lethal.

    Also, this "Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate", an agent/developer for the DOD(not actually PART of the DOD), uses the term "non-lethal" in their name, but their mission statement says they are "...reducing the risk of fatalities and permanent injury to noncombatants". It's a very bad contradiction. #taser

    Even with a normal taser if you get the person in the jugular its going to kill them. Or if they have a heart condition. Tasers are lethal and to argue they are not is ridiculous.

    @Swearengen: Pepper spray can be lethal if the suspect has an allergy. Police batons can be lethal if someone takes a blow to the head. You seem to misunderstand the difference between "can be lethal" and "is usually lethal."

    Seriously, I want you to go ahead and let me know a better way for a cop to get an actively-resisting suspect to comply that doesn't put the cop in more physical danger. #taser

    @weatherman: They are fin-stabilized rounds, so they are fairly accurate. I wouldn't try one in a hostage situation, but still better than a live 203 round. #taser
