I personally think it's a crime that the Strat is the typical electric guitar shape in people's minds.
(Even more of a crime is that Tom Delonge gets his own strat model - the dude never plays more than 3 power chords in one song... and don't get me started with his whining....)

I do agree with you on the strat though! It seems like such a generic design. I've always been more of a fan of the Les Paul / PRS body styles.
@badhatharry: I can dig the minimalist approach -- I actually primarily play a Steinberger, and one would be hard-pressed to pry it out of my hands now. Somehow the design of the Tele always put me off to it though.

1 year, 2 hours a day, and you'll be able to play competently, in front of people, provided you aren't completely untalented.
the old 'i don't want to spend hours a day for years learning how to play a real guitar' argument is holding less water as the years go on, since many players arguably have put that much time into the game.

Me personally, I enjoy Rock Band and some Guitar Hero. It is fun, and even better with a group of friends. Though I still rock the RB1 instruments.
It is a hobby people enjoy. Why does someone always have to rain on their parade. Though I would never buy this, some people would because it is something they like to go along with something they enjoy. It is kinda like some of the guys in my other hobby. I enjoy 4x4s and running the trails. Get guys that see a lowered truck and say essentially the same thing to them. It is what they enjoy. They aren't hurting anyone.
I could turn it around and put it this way. Why spend 2 hours a day for 1 year learning to play a real guitar so me and a couple friends can stand out in my garage pretending to be a real rock star? Yeah there is a chance I can take the time, learn, and maybe, just maybe form a band and get signed to a label. But the chances of that happening, very slim. And being married with a kid, I can't just pack up and move to New York, LA, or Nashville and try to get spotted. So I stand in my living room, enjoy playing a video game with some friends, and enjoy the music. All because it is FUN.
99% of players of these games don't think they are rock stars because they can play Rock Band, despite popular belief with the help of South Park.

and i'm all for having fun, to each their own, boats floating with different strokes and whatnot
i was only addressing the notion that people would rather play rock band instead of a real guitar because it takes too much time and effort to learn a real guitar. but then they go and spend that much time or more on rock band, to the point where they're just repeating the same songs, trying for a higher score, until it's not fun anymore. which is pretty much what learning real guitar is like, except that when you're done, you've got a skill that will stay with you forever. a skill that could get you laid, even.
as for learning guitar in order to form a rock band, that's just misguided and naive. people learn to play guitar because they enjoy the guitar - i dont think anyone who ever made it picked up their first guitar and thought, 'great, once i get this down, i'm forming a band, and we're gonna make it!' - they picked it up because it looked interesting.
im not knocking the natural desire for (near) instant gratification, im just saying that to play rock band in lieu of learning real guitar, citing the time investment as the main roadblock, and then spending that much time on the game, is a bit silly.

that's not what he was saying at all. he was saying that it's kind of ridiculous when a toy guitar costs as much as a real one. like if you had a model airplane that cost $500,000 inevitably people would be like, 'dude, you could have bought, like, you know, a REAL plane for that'

I was not at all saying go out and buy a real guitar.
I just meant, wow, the price of these peripherals is really crazy. I'd love to have that, but the fact is you CAN actually buy a real electric guitar at these prices. That's it!
Not about the quality of said guitar, or the time spent to learn to play said guitar. And obviously guys, I know a $110 guitar is a really really crappy guitar.
My girlfriend:" What is that hanging on your wall?"
Me: "A custom 22 PRS with tortoise shell top. It's the guitar I've always wanted, and now I own it. I rule."
(but seriously I do own that guitar.)

Yes, when the price of a toy guitar approaches or surpasses the price of an entry level guitar, it does seem "ridiculous". However, some people just don't want to learn to play a real guitar. For instance, I'd like to get the Ion Drum Kit which costs $300 and can be turned into an electronic drum kit, but I only want it because it's gotten good reviews on the responsiveness for playing RB/GH.
Even still, playing RB/GH in no way equals the same skill as playing a real guitar. I know this, I have no illusions over the fact that I'm playing a game and if I choose to spend a few hundred on a fake instrument, how does it affect you? #telecaster

Since there aren't much amazing shows around here where I live, I'm just looking forward to watch AC/DC in November. For the lack of a berserk Jim Heath, I will at least watch an Angus going nuts at his Jay Cee Ems (boy, do I love guitarists with stage presence).

For the system, there's long-established, super-efficient factories making circuit boards and disc drives and flash memory that will end up going to all kinds of places. Computers, DVRs, consoles, whatever shiny new laser-driven product Apple comes out with.
How many uses do little rubber drum cymbals have? Nope, not really anything else. They need to mass-produce it, but they have a much smaller market they're selling to, so it costs more per unit to pay for those facilities.
And given that these here are premium controllers, with (allegedly) high-quality parts, the price seems actually pretty reasonable.
