The 's' is for a more efficient processor (usually slightly underclocked). They run cooler (and therefore quieter) and are used mainly in slimline and HTPC models.
What's up with the codenames? I don't want my computer powered by a Bloomfield, I want it powered by a Desert Storm or something cool sounding like that.
I think Apple just rather pay exclusiveness for their chips to avoid the hackintosh situation.
I do wish this isn't truth, for hackintosh is doing a heaps of promotion of OSX amongst the geeks, And could be the best way to make people convert to the mac enviroment.
@ridgecity: I dont think Intel would want to restrict its CPUs like that. ATM apple does have exclusive CPUs at launch before the other cos get them in a couple of months.
If they hate hackintoshing they can always bring back the power pc lol!
Oh no! Are you quite sure? Marked with an "S", no less? It does portend rather ominously, does it not? I think I will have to sit down and have a cup of tea on this startling revelation!
It's a bit of a letdown on the gulftown, but it could just as easily be the case that they're simply already "reserved" by Apple.
there had better be some good deals when the Windows 7 RC starts shutting down. It's so much easier to just buy a new laptop than deal with an OS install.
are they going to fit into i7 motherboards?are there going to be like the i5 ones that had motherboards for themselves but supported i7s too but in other format?and if yes.are the i9s worth buying?i mean if a new ones comes next year that needs a new motherboard to operate then i'm going to be very sad for stepping from my core 2 duo 2.4ghz prossecor
Are games not multithreaded? I would think it would be pretty easy to divvy tasks up for games as there's lots of diverse things going on simultaneously.

@oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...: Or, you could just buy a current/cheaper apple machine, pay to install Windows legally, still save money, and run C4D just fine. LOL
@Lite: hates Illinois Nazis: ? what are you talking about? I PREFER to run C4d on OSX. I have a i7 mac pro right now, Id like to upgrade. WTF does windows have to do with C4d and what am I doing thats illegal?
Windows will not improve my c4d experience its already awesome in os x. Id just like higher than I already have cinebench scores for GI and TP.
Basically, OSX really just kind of blows for 3D performance. And, I own several macs. I love them. I played WoW for a couple of years on my Powerbook and MBP.
I'm merely stating something that Apple themselves has acknowledged.
@Lite: hates Illinois Nazis: hrmm. I dont have any issues with performance on OS X. Maybe back in like c4d 8 or 9 using a nvidia card. but with a 4870 1gb flashed for OS x. and dual quads. I have no issues what so ever.
id never switch to windows for C4D. Maybe 3dS. I have yet to work at a motion house that used windows with c4d either.
If you have a recent review of C4d on os x or facts to back that up Id like to see them.
It's not the fault of the OS if the developers of any given piece of software choose to do a crappy port of their app to MacOS X rather than rewrite the necessary parts with all the same OS optimizations that they did on the original platform.
@Zanzan42: Actually, it really just blows. It is the fault of the OS, because the OS hasn't been very good at 3D graphics. That was one of the things 10.6 is supposed to address.
