Why full up the iPhone's memory with a giant 1080 video file when the screen's resolution is much less? Unless you're going to create an Apple-to-HDMI cable and then allow the iPhone to connect to HD displays. THAT would be terrific -- take your HD movies on the go!

Yes, but then you need the audio, and I assume the 2-channel jack isn't really going to do it for 5.1 or DTS-HD or DolbyHD sound.

Well, if that's true, say sayonara to the only feature advantage the Zune HD had. Ah, well; nice try Microsoft. I still like my Z80, so there's that.

@Xeno: No, not really. Who the hell listens to FM radio? Now AM, where you can listen to ball games and the local traffic and weather, maybe. FM Top 40 laden radio, though? Who cares?

@Steve: Both Tegra and OLED are very nice features, but the Touch is entrenched, and most consumers don't know much about these technologies.

I think the Zune HD has a better chance than any previous Zune of taking a bite out Apple, but all bets are off until the Rock 'n' Roll event is done.

Eh, wouldn't be surprising. Also wouldn't be too fantastic. Unless they're coming out with a 1TB iPod, I'm *still* not all that interested in using a portable device to house all my high-def video.

@OCEntertainment: We're years away from that. 2.5" drives are just hitting 640/750 GB, and flash memory is still too expensive to even be considered.

With the 1.8" drive market slowing in favor of NAND memory, I don't forsee 1TB iPods(or whatever media player is popular then) for half a decade at least.

I think the release is just saying that the HK receiver can stream stored HD files off of an iPod -- not that the iPod itself can play the image.

In reply to Harman Kardon Blu-ray Player: Half As Expensive In US as In Europe
All a blueray player does is lift the digital signal from the disc, process the signal and deliver it to the HDMI connection. Looking aside from some audio codec licensing, since digital components being cheap, then what is the quality difference from a 200$ and a 1000$ bd-player? I mean, it is all digital - its not like in the old days where to quality of the D/A converters made all the difference? Which components can you stuff in cabinet that makes it worth 1000$?

@mikkelfunck: proprietary processes and the related hardware. have you ever bought a DVD player at a grocery store? yeah, try that and you'll know why there is a difference.

my guess will have to end up being the ethernet cord and the other 90 plugins/adapters.. also a big name brand (if this is one) usually charges alot for the "sleek desgin" i.e. apple and sony when they originaly released the ps3.

Seems like a waste. I love there products and treasure the Harmon Kardon receiver I have, but what in gods name could justify $1000 on a blu ray player? I bought a blu ray drive for my computer for $79.

@Aashish Bhagyanagar: I don't. But Sony makes a few pieces of audio gear that are surprisingly good. Their C-800 microphone is around $10,000 and used on a lot of albums. Sometimes their pro audio chops trickle down to other products.
