This made me stick my head out of the window just to see if it was orange. I was disappointed it wasnt, since I expected it to be, with living 10 minutes away from NYC.
@trs: Comments automatically get approved when one of us stars replies to them, even if we are doing so to be critical. It's kind of a system flaw if you ask me.
Common misunderstanding. The moon in no lower in the sky at a harvest moon. The ecliptic - the celestial plane on which it lies - is lower to the horizon at moonrise and moonset but this means that you get several days with similar moonrise and moonset times. The moon's path across the sky is at a medium height. It's at its lowest at the summer equinox and its highest and the winter equinox
I was just out there for like 2 hours. Got some amazing video of the motion of the moon. It goes so much faster than I thought. 32x zoom from my view got amazing view of the craters and everything. It was truly breathtaking.
The moon always looks slightly red when it's near the horizon. This is because the light has to travel through more atmosphere (more airmass), and thus, the shorter wavelengths (blue and green) are filtered out leaving only longer wavelengths (red). The air pollution may add to the effect, but the moon is always slightly red near the horizon, pollution or not.
@Jesus Diaz: I'm the kind of music nerd who actually has an autumal moon-themed mix tape. Nick Drake, Neil Young, Joseph Arthur... very mellow. Rain or no, it's perfect for Harvest Moon. :]
@Jesus Diaz:
Honey and the Moon - Joseph Arthur
Harvest Moon - Neil Young
I Can Smell the Leaves - Olivia Tremor Control
More Like the Moon - Wilco
Autumn Sweater - Yo La Tengo
Catch the Moon - Marc Jordan
Goodnight Moon - Shivaree
4th Street Moon - Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers
Nightswimming - REM
The Gold Finch and the Red Oak Tree - Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
Sail to the Moon - Radiohead
Shoot the Moon - Norah Jones
I kind of went for a mellow vibe. There are a couple more songs, but they're included more on how mellow they are than on being autumn/moon-based.

Nothing like a little bit of shameless self-promotion. No thanks. I'll stick with Giz.
