    Hearses usually have considerable power that helps them haul their heavy load slowly up hills...


    I can just see a Prihearse crawling along at 15-20kph, then stomping it up to 50 to take on a hill, gradually slowing down as it gets partway up.

    50 mpg combined is what the 2010 prius gets - before doubling the size of the car and adding hundreds of pounds of support steel.


    This is just a press release from an unknown Japanese limo conversion company. They're trying to hawk their product with a terribly done photoshop. If that's the best they can do for marketing materials, I wouldn't put much faith into the quality of their products.

    @geekpi: A Prius gets better city mileage than highway mileage. They may be assuming that a hearse does not need to drive at highway speeds and only report the city mileage. They might even be using their own tests where they calculated gas mileage at a 40mph constant.

    Actually, the "greenest" thing any of us can do right now is just die. I mean, no humans = no pollution, right? At least, this is the excuse I use when shooting hippies.

    @Purple Monkey Dishwasher: My guess is that since the majority of the weight in a Prius comes from the battery, they are actually able to turn a regular Prius into a hearse without a huge percentage of a weight increase. They may have also made this have a max speed of 65mph and a lower acceleration since hearses do not need to have high performance. I also don't know if hybrids are affected by weight nearly as much as gas only engines.
