    I sure as hell hope the cops drop every single fine on his ass. Search and rescue fee, police hours. Then random people should sue him for making them worried and hoping that the kid was ok. Then child protective services should take the kids away cause obviously the dad is an ass and is not suited to raise his kids. Then someone should fill his ass up with helium and let him float away. This is ridiculous. #heliumballoon

    @dimsum4u: I think they should pay municipal fees but I don't understand all the TV/Cable network backlash. Ratings went through the roof because of this stunt. A lot of people made a lot of money and I think all the media negativity is hypocritical. #heliumballoon

    Wow this guy's story changes every minute. Originally it was that their older son saw the youngest get into the balloon and then it 'somehow' became untethered and flew away.

    That doesn't appear to be the case at all. So the family has been lying from the very start.

    @Avrus: The big tip off for me was hearing that he called the local TV station first to ask for their help. (They have a traffic helicopter.) Wouldn't most parents panicked about the safety of their kid call the police first? #heliumballoon

    @Darksider1972: Well dude, we're not all physicists. Somebody says, "my kid is in there and he's in danger" and we think, "save that kid!". We're not doing calcs in our heads about it, we just want the kid to be safe. That's what makes this so damn sick--these assholes played us for that very real emotion. #heliumballoon

    I'm glad BalloonBoi is OK. And lets be clear on this point. What happened was the BEST outcome possible. I was wondering today what would have happened if that Mylar diaphragm had hit some high tension lines or one of those 2k' tall television towers. DoucheDad would have to prove to me that he had foreknowledge that he was sure that nothing like that couldn't have happened.

    He's also an idiot for letting a kid go on live TV. Kids are like rabid dogs and women: unpredictable and likely to turn on you in a second. His back peddling and trying to be a buffer between the interviewer and BalloonBoi to steer him towards the right answers shows he is a manipulator.

    A balloon 10 times a big, so it could actually carry a 6 year old boy, taking Falcon on a sweet joyride that would cause Douche-Dad to spend enough time in prison that Falcon could grow up without the influence of that A-hole

    That would be his only fighting chance at life IMHO #heliumballoon

    @Goondocks: Well, when you become the head of emergency services, and someone says a child might be in there, THEN you can decide if you dispatch services or not. And if instead of reacting, you convene a commitee to asses if it's possible a child is involved before taking any action, I can tell you you will only get it wrong once before you are lynched. #heliumballoon

    @Goondocks: Hindsight is 20/20. According to the news reports, they were told it was an enclosed Gondola/instrument area, which would make sense, as getting data is harder when the instruments are surrounded with helium. What I mean is, if the area is 100% helium, that would affect air pressure readings and the such, as helium is different than O2. #heliumballoon

    How does this prove it's a hoax??? Because they were stupid and didn't tie it down? The guy get's mad because his wife never held the rope. What's the big deal??? And lets trust the response of a 6 year old who's been pummelled with hundreds of questions. Why does there always have to be controversy? How it played out wasn't exciting enough?

    @apples000: Uhhhhh, because he WATCHED it take off. The way it tipped would have shown an accomplished scientist such as himself if there was anyone tumbling around inside. And to think he claims he is the descendant of aliens. You can't claim that and then say you didn't know if the balloon you built launched like it had an additional 50 lbs in it. #heliumballoon

    @S-Express has a pet troll: Nathan: Can't fault the cops, honestly. The cops didn't believe Baby Jessica was in the pipe at first, because there was no way a baby could fit in it. When it comes to kids, Cops, FireFighters, EMS, etc... suspend belief many times in order to save a child. I've been in a busy communications room in a Police house with my Dad when a call came in about a possible kid in a locked car. You want to see 10-15 hardened cops stop what they are doing and mobilize three cars, an ambulance, and a firetruck, have a call come in about a kid. #heliumballoon
