”Band Geek Hero Shirts Proclaim You King of the Keytar
Guitarists may get all the chicks, but some of us loudly and proudly played less popular instruments and heck, we ought to get a chance to be a hero too! While I plead with Harmonix to include the noble Euphonium in their next music game, you other band geeks can show solidarity with your instrument of choice by wearing it on your shirt. Torsopants has a crazy collection of Guitar Hero parodies for almost every musical player out there. Banjo Hero? Kazoo Hero? Didgeridoo Hero? All yours for $19 plus shipping. Guitar Hero fans usually hate the Rock Band guitar controller and vice versa. Instructables has a pretty good how-to that can solve the problem for Guitar Hero fans at the cost of a Rock Band controller. It's a way to mash up an old PS2 Guitar Hero controller with the Rock Band Fender guitar and make a perfect hybrid with raised keys a clicky strum. You could just use an Xbox 360 Guitar Hero controller for Rock Band if you're on an Xbox 360, but where's the fun in that? [Instructables]StarPex Full-Size Wooden Guitar For the PS2 and PS3
Playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band might make the average Joe feel more like a rock star—but the fact that you are playing on a tiny plastic guitar kind of ruins the fantasy. That's where the StarPex comes in. It is the first full-sized wooden guitar for the PS2/PS3 and it features a 10-button design with solo-buttons and an Overdrive/Star Power button, chrome plated tuning pegs, a wired/wireless connectivity option and a modular design that will allow users to trick out their guitar. The StarPex will be available in late August for $179.95.

Mysterious Wireless Guitar Hero Controller For Wii Surfaces
A reader in Michigan sent in this image he snapped at his local Wal-Mart of a hither-to unknown controller for Guitar Hero for the Wii called the Rage. None of us have heard of it, a Google search turned up nothing, and there's nothing on Wal-Mart's website about it, so it's a mystery. But it's a sweet looking one, with the box stating it's got the most realistic action yet, light-up LEDs on the fretboard, and a realistic looking wood-toned neck. Pretty sweet, though with the $54.78 price tag, you pay for the good looks. Thanks, James!Premium Rock Band 2 Drum Kit Surfaces: "Badass" Is The Word You're Looking For
I play Rock Band like a champ, and when I'm with my crew I'm usually on drums. I'm a drummer, and I love playing them, and the included drum controller always seemed just fine to me. Kotaku found this photo of the premium Rock Band 2 kit and I've decided I must have it. UPDATE: OK, so this kit doesn't ship with Rock Band 2, it's an $300 optional purchase. More »The Ant Commandos' Wireless Bass Guitar For Guitar Hero, Rock Band
One of our main complaints about playing bass on Guitar Hero or Rock Band is that the guitars aren't bass guitars. The Ant Commandos, a company that specializes in making cheaper versions of video game accessories, has just released a wireless PS2/PS3 bass guitar. It doesn't solve the problem of not being able to double-strum with two fingers, which the Mad Catz version does, but it is long necked like a real bass. The Widow Maker is available now for $69. Guitar Hero World Tour's Touch-Guitar Previewed (Best Guitar Controller Yet)
IGN has the first hands on with Guitar Hero World Tour, which continues the instrument one-upmanship with a touch-sensitive neck on its more guitar-sized guitar that'll let you do lots of wicked stuff like alter notes during a sustain above and beyond the whammy bar, or tap it to play like a slap bass. In the music creator, you can use it to do things like mess with the drum machine in real time, tweak loops or add sustains or staccato notes. Overall, the new guitar—and the game—sound awesome, and not just a straight rip on Rock Band, which has us excited. [IGN via Game Life]
Guitar Hero Gets Its Own DS
You know Guitar Hero has gotten ridiculously big when the franchise gets its own Nintendo DS. Coordinated with the Guitar Hero: On Tour launch June 22, a silver and black Nintendo DS adorned with the Guitar Hero logo will be available in a limited edition bundle. The price is yet to be announced, but specially branded DS systems rarely cost any sort of premium. The real price you'll pay is the irreversible damage all that heroin does to your body. [Kotaku]All Things D: World Debut of Guitar Hero 4
Bezos just exited, but we've got more for you. The CEO of Activision is here to talk about the future of gaming consoles and video games. We'll stick to the hardware side of things and report on that only, so updates will come slowly.More »
This Is How Guitar Hero Works on the DS
We long wondered just how it would be possible to play Guitar Hero on the DS in the upcoming Guitar Hero: On Tour. There was this big attachment thing and this pick thing and this "will people really play this in public?" thing. Now a new video explains the process in excruciatingly cheesy detail. Looking at the hardware this closely, I'm betting that the stylus (pick) is going to induce a lot more whining than the fret buttons. What do you think? [Kotaku]"I Beat My Boyfriend At Guitar Hero" Shirt
The genius behind the "I Beat My Boyfriend At Guitar Hero" Shirt is not that women can publicize their video game victories over the men in their life, but that women can publicize their video game victories over the men in their life whether or not they actually ever happened. That said, this adult adolescent male can admit that, yes, his wife can kick his ass on the drums in Rock Band. But alas, there is no shirt for that, my love. Patriarchy 4ever! [Stylin Online via ShinyShiny]More Buttons, More Money: Guitar Hero World Tour Costs More Than Rock Band, $190
It looks like all those extra buttons and cymbals in Guitar Hero: World Tour that will make it better than Rock Band (cause more buttons = more better) don't come cheap. Gamestop is listing the bundle at $189.99 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 ($179 for PS2), $20 more than Rock Band's $169.99 retail price. With tax, that's over $200—meaning music gamers might have to pick between being a hero or a bandleader. Update: At least it looks like quality gear—the Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and Blink's Travis Barker vouch for it in the vid below. More »Guitar Hero 4 Guitar to Have More Buttons?
If you look at the guitar pictured in the Guitar Hero promo page you will notice what looks like new buttons on the base of the fretboard. Knowing about the expanded new drums, this could mean that they are going to increase the complexity of the guitars too, requiring even more dexterity than previous versions. Note to Guitar Hero people: no matter how complex you make it, it still won't be a real guitar. [Guitar Hero—thanks Alex]Guitar Hero World Tour Gets Official
Guitar Hero World Tour is now official for a Fall of 2008 release thanks to a press release making it so. As our friends at Kotaku have pointed out, the most innovative aspect of the game is the Music Studio feature that will allow users to create and share original music, essentially making the Guitar Hero guitar the real instrument everyone hoped it could be. Other than that, we can expect the rumored electronic drum kit, newly redesigned guitar and a microphone along with the standard gameplay upgrades. For the full scoop, check out the press release after the break. And hit the Kotaku link for more screenshots.More »

I can't tell you how many times I have looked down at my Guitar Hero guitar and wished that it could be used like a real instrument. The only problem was that I lacked the ability to build one. Oh, and I have no musical ability whatsoever. Fortunately, it appears that someone with skills has done the dirty work for me by figuring out a way to turn a Guitar Hero guitar into a full-fledged MIDI controller.
