Is it illegal to kill dolphins?
Why use the word 'slaughter' in that manner? Surely they slaughter them AFTER they kill them. Otherwise they'd just be killing them for no reason.
They kill them to eat them.
As long as it's legal, and the animal's not endangered I'll eat it.
I WANT to eat a dolphin. I just need to know if it's poaching.
also...300,000,000 sharks? Maybe a third of that. And since when are peoples' opinions on the slaughter of dolphins mutually exclusive of their appreciation for the similar (and more terrible) circumstances sharks find themselves in?? Dont get all crazy up in here.
@Brian Lam: Well, sharks aren't killed for their meat, they are killed for their fins. So they are caught, have all their fins cut off, then thrown back into the water. At least some of these Dolphins are brought to aquatic parks, as the guy who made this movie, and caught and trained all 6 Flippers for the TV mentioned when they interviewed him on NPR's FreshAir. It's all evil though.
I saw The Cove last January when it premiered at Sundance. The audience was extremely enthusiastic, giving it and the filmmaker (who was there) a long round of applause, all of it much-deserved.
You walk out from the film feeling both disturbed/disgusted by what was going on in this particular Japanese harbor (and, apparently, according to the filmmaker, continues to some degree today) and thrilled by the intriguing storyline and unique footage.
@bosskev: Are you a vegetarian or something?
The meat in the USA comes from animals treated much worse, and killed in an equally cruel manner, if not worse.
"The meat in the USA comes from animals treated much worse, and killed in an equally cruel manner, if not worse."
Yes. Yes it does. It's a national disgrace the way livestock and dairy-producing animals are treated in many places.
"Dolphins at least live wild until caught."
Oh, well I see, I misunderstood. Thanks for the clarification! Ol' dummy me, now I realize that, as long as they lived wild until caught, as you say, slaughtering creatures considered to be among the most highly intelligent and social of all species is, like, totally OK. Whew! That's a load off my mind!
@bosskev: Yes, it is.
Totally fine.
Are your eyes on the sides of your head?
Were you born with no tearing teeth?
You were born omniverous. Your choice of an unnatural diet, for whatever reason, does not change the fact that the rest of the world, natural or cultivated, does not work that way.
In fact if the world went vegetarian, billions would starve.
I look out for my species. Often times that means watching out for other species as well, but if it doesn't benefit us at all, I see no reason to ruin the economy of an entire region of a country over it.
But as I've stated, they're pretty high in mercury, so there's a pretty serious health concern.
@TheGZeus: Do not mistake the fact that I am dropping out of this conversation as a "win" for you (or, for that matter, for me). The truth is, you're just not worth the hassle.
Boo freakin' hoo. 23,000 dolphins? Tell that to the estimated 300,000,000 sharks slaughtered each year, which are known to be even more important to the ecosystems in our oceans.
anyone with a decent receiver that upconverts everything can get better, even up to 1080p upconversion, but as you can see from the image above upconversion isn't that great. The picture isn't that crisp all around.
I was gaming on my wii day one at 1080p, but didn't consider it be to "news". unfortunately, I stopped gaming on the wii as soon as I finished mario galaxy (about 1 week before it was released and two days after "getting" it).

From the site: "She has been in the same room with Michael Bay at least once." Which is obviously Pearl Harbor.
Well deserved in my opinion, even though apparently her new movie Whiteout was pretty atrocious.
