@NorwoodIsMyHero: Sadly, no... but I felt the need to provide at least a small measure of clarification and edification to the readers who might not doubt the veracity of his statement. Those are some kickass "Tricorder" devices. The iPhone is nifty, versatile, and popular, but credit where credit is due... that was 30 seconds of "research" I did.
It should also be noted that Gene Roddenberry actually approved the use of the name "tricorder" for the TR-107 TRICORDER Mark 1 from Vital Technologies, in 1996, a full thirteen years prior to this "new" iPhone device. #iphonechemicalsensor
"Captain's Log: Stardate 44375.5 I made this gas sensor from my cell phone today, so I will know when their are toxic concentrations of deadly gases in the air. Like now I can see that there is a lethal concentration of chlorine gas in the air right now."
Let's see. On the one hand, we've got an Al Qaeda operative who's trained to blend in under any circumstances. On the other, the overly-paranoid lady who doesn't like folks getting in her personal space. She also carries Purell in a holster.
I wonder which person is going to get caught by this.
This is just getting rediculously out of hand. If they start monitoring my bio signs and other things I will not ever fly again. That is a massive invasion of privacy. Just by being to able to pick up breathing and heart rate you can tell if somebody has diseases or other conditions.
As for the balance board, cool idea, but I see it yielding a lot of false positives. I have a bad ankle and I need to shift my weight around and move it around a little if I'm standing for a long time.
All that being said, it shouldn't be more terrifying to come back into the US than going around in Mexico for a week. I'm more nervous about going through security at an airport than the actual flying.
I know other won't agree with me, but I've always been a believer that if you've got nothing to hide, then this type of screening shouldn't bother you.
How stupid are these people? I can train for better balance. Without a baseline, a balance test is worthless.
Beyond that, are we really considering testing for temperature, breathing, and fidgeting? What if I just think the screener is hot? They'd haul me off for more screening while the well-trained and calm martyr is whisked on board.
this is bullshit. One of my legs is slightly longer than the other, so I am ALWAYS shifting my weight. Seriously, this isn't security, this is paranoia.
I will fail this (and I am not a terrorist) because every time I fly I am a nerveous wreck, CERTAIN that I am about to go to my death. I guess I have lots of full cavity/strip searches to look forward to.
@Curves: No kidding! They might as well have somebody snapping on the latex gloves every time you step on and tell you, in a reassuring voice, to relax.

Since I'm usually the source of those 'killer gasses' I don't need some fancy gadget that tells me, he who smelt it, dealt it... #iphonechemicalsensor

The iPhone system is definitely nice, but a little late to be posting "First!!!" in the Tricorder thread. #iphonechemicalsensor
