Dear Sony,
Perhaps you would have 'started to turn around' before now if you weren't an overcontrolling, overbearing, lying, rootkit-installing, hardware-bricking, overpriced gang of fools. You were once a bastion of cutting-edge, reasonably priced electronics. Now, after countless failed proprietary format introductions, you finally 'get one', as much by poisoning your competitors as on actual merit, and you're surprised that people aren't falling all over themselves rebuying media and players that could be remotely bricked at any time, for incremental increases in picture quality paid for in a steep premium? Sorry, Sony, but while I'm finally pulling the trigger on HDTV and HTPC purchases this year, there will be no Sony components, and no Blu-Ray. There's nothing in your product catalog that can't be had elsewhere for a lower cost.

Dont give up Sony, you just need to rethink your advertising campaign. I would suggest advertising the PS3 more like a complete media center rather than a console. #sony
@Michai: That would be a better pitch to me. I already have consoles for games, but a sweet BD player with some options and a bit of future-proofing could be nice. #sony
@Michai: It seems to me that people are buying the console only for the BD drive. I know I only got it for that and MGS4. There's no compelling reason otherwise and if all your friends are playing MW2 on the Xbox you're going to buy an xbox. #sony
@yantelope: The, one of many, problem with xbox is that within the next year or two games will become far too large to fit on the xBox dvd's. In fact some games on xBox already have found content missing due to its inability to hold all the data. So basically on future xBox games you will see multiple dvd games or games with content missing squeezed onto one Dvd. #sony
@Michai: I'm going to go with "giggity" on this one. There's just certain scenarios when you really DON'T want efficiency. ;P If ya know what I mean. #sony
Dumbphones will always have a market because not everyone wants to pay for the data. Also, not everyone wants the added connectivity. For example, there are many people who have backberries for work, so they just buy a dumphone for their personal cell number - no need to duplicate functionality. I'm not one of these people, and neither are most people who read this website, but to say that the dumbphone is on its way to extinction is a load of crap. Unless wiereless providers start offering data for free.
@winkerVsbecks: my dumb phone has just enough access to the net to satisfy me. I can dl ringtones and games and that's all I want. I don't want to do my email and surf casually on my phone. I have better things to do.
@Margatron: Same here. My last two phones have been SE because they offer very small models. I might not be able to check my email or wikipedia every time I think of some question that I NEED answered, but I can quickly check the weather when the sky looks threatening and that's all I need. I'm too frugal and too unwilling to give up something else in my life so I can afford a smartphone data plan, no matter how droolworthy those phones are. I'm good with a dumbphone.
I don't think MS was all that great, between having 2 different DRM schemes: Plays for Sure and Zune DRM which they purposely made incompatible. Then you have Xbox and no portable integration there yet. Windows Home Server just got some features to use Windows Media Center and Windows 7 libraries.
It's a start but MS still needs to get a little better. They have a major advantage in that their OS is used on 90% of the world's PCs.
Honestly when a company gets that BIG and can't control itself i find it sad. Some companies just cant handle the growth and split or crumble in so many ways, they loose much strength. Think IBM, GM, Chrystler. I for one am very impressed with the fortitude that M$ has shown, hopefully companies like Apple and Google will be the same.
@Ryanraven: Ignoring your sad dollar signage representation of MSFT, you think that MicroSoft has fortitude!? You should take a look at their divisions as of late, boy...

I am very sad for Torvalds not being there, considering how many things work on Linux these days. Very bad job Giz. You made me (and more readers) very bitter.
hahah he does have a point though. though linux is still small in the desktop world, it's used to run alot of commercial and business tech and all the companies mentioned above i'm sure use it to some extent.
I solved the Pancake Problem by the time I was 10.
x = P + (P x M oz.) + 2B + E *3 + SB where SB > 5.
P equals the number of pancakes in a stack
M equals Maple Syrup
B equals Butter Pats
E equals Eggs (sunnyside up)
SB equals a Side of Bacon
Any stack of Pancakes is to be covered in a number of ounces of warm Maple Syrup equal to the number of Pancakes plus 2 Pats of Butter plus Three Eggs Sunnyside Up, with a Side of Bacon of no less than 6 rashers of Bacon.
Using this formula, you will have a crazy delicious breakfast and be able to have a rad day sledding and throwing snowballs, providing there is adequate snow to shut down the schools and permit reindeer games.
@OMG! Ponies!: That's great, but did you happen to stumble upon the post-sledding optimum hot-chocolate to marshmallow ratio in your adventures? Remember: for every 8 ounces of cocoa, you must have no less then 10 mini-marshmallows. Real ones, too, none of that freeze-dried crap.
n is a function of number of times ordered based on the Munchies Theorem
Hb Equals a Side Hash Browns
And SB, is a Side of Bacon as function of n whereas Sb>2 with respect (and dictated by) the quantum laws of porker preservation while oak smoke flavor is super saturated by coffee sipping.
But you were 10, so I guess you may be gradually forgiven.
@DeusExMach has jumped the snark: Uh...the co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation (think databases), one of the world's largest business software companies?

Executables aren't usually more than a few MBs. They can put the EXEs on both discs.
I don't mind changing discs every 30 odd hours of gameplay. Or in the case of Fallout 3 every few hundred hours. #sony

HardObvious Choices About SmartphonesThere is a cellphone market outside the US.
India and China (huge markets) mostly look for dumb and cheap phones. Europe isn't all crazy for smart phones yet.
BTW what percentage of people in the US have smart phones?
I agree we all need smart phones but the reality is, dumb phones make a very big part of the market still.
