I just got a moto droid on sunday. Heres what I found:
A small percentage of droid phones will crash, freeze or randomly reboot when using the phone. Mine was one of them, but I quickly exchanged it yesterday and the phone works great.
Verizons visual voicemail that comes preloaded costs $2.99 per month, but if you have a google voice account, you can get visual voice mail with transcribing for free on your phone. Google Voice app works great too.
Voice search for navigation is awesome. GPS works extremely fast for me, locking on in under 30 seconds in most cases, and its pretty accurate. Using it with google latitude is a little creepy - too much big brother action going on.
Default notification sound is BAD. Everytime someone texts me, this annoying sound of a robot saying DROIIIDDDDD plays. That sound didnt last long before I changed it.
Keyboard is OK. The keys have no spacing, and its hard to tell what key you press without staring at the keyboard.
Overall, I really like the phone, especially since my unlimited data plan only cost me an extra $23 a month since I get a 23% discount on my monthly bill (government employment discount or something). I live in CT and so far my reception has been good, getting mostly 4-5 bars in the majority of places I've been. I was also at my one year upgrade point, but the phone cost me $219 after MIR, only $20 more than the 2 year upgrade. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
I checked out the upcoming fixes document but I didn't see a particular email problem.
I have a personal email account that was packaged with my hosted domain. When I check my emails I can only delete them afterwards, I can't send them to a different folder (like Archive) for later storage and reference. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
Not on the list: If you registered the phone using a Google Apps account, you can't purchase software from the Market. Even if you have a gmail account set up on the phone, too. Before Android 2.0 if you had a gmail account set up you could buy, but not anymore.
honestly, the app space thing really doesn't matter. First of all, most apps are under 1 MB, so you could have over 256 of them! There's no way you could feasibly use that many. Second, I believe there is an app for giving additional home screens (I saw it on some app webpage, but I cannot remember the name). Third, I heard they may fix the app / sd card "issue" in the future.
@paleogirl03001: I have 130 apps on my iphone totaling 4.3 gb. Just Wolfenstein and Doom take up almost 256mb of space. I hope they do fix it. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
@Bigbadbikernerd: The "No Wi-Fi Access" point was under the heading of "Verizon Wireless Applications". You can't use any of their special applications through Wi-Fi but otherwise it works. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
I wish they'd update the Droid to have more than three pages to swipe between for apps. Either that or allow me to label folders with something other than "Folder". Don't get me wrong, I'm still loving the phone, but there are a few things that need work. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
@IndustrialJones: just hold down on the word "folder" (the header of the folder window) and it will bring up a renaming dialog box.
I love the Droid so far. It's really responsive and a great phone on a fast network. This list by Verizon is a good thing. Everything has bugs, glad to see that they are being proactive and quick in fixing them. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
@IndustrialJones: I'm pretty sure there is an app called freshface that allows to add two more pages, but I've never used it, I can't say how good it is. Also, I think if you hold down the title of the folder once it is opened you should be able to change the name. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
@IndustrialJones: you can change the name of folders. add the folder, open it, then long click on the title bar, it will then prompt you to rename. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
@IndustrialJones: You can label the folders. Just open the folder, then long press title bar (where it says "folder"). You get a pop-up and you get to rename it. :)
Beware, though, if you have too many apps on one screen, stuffed into folders, it might cause home screen freezes. I had like 60 apps on one screen, and whenever I left my browser or another processor-hungry application, the system can't switch resources quickly enough to load all those application shortcuts, so I got frozen for a second.
This is all from my experience on a MT3G, running 1.6, but I suspect this stuff works the same on 2.0. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
@TheSonOfKrypton: Actually, almost all apps use the SD card for storage, so the memory problem is moot. I've been installing things left and right. If you root your phone, you can even run apps right off the SD card. And rooting is not like jailbreaking an iPhone, much simpler.
@Sugartits: No. I've never seen VZW offer data only. The only place I've ever seen data only offered was on the old sidekicks and that was only for deaf people. #htcdroideris
Have fun paying for the required $30 data plan. Does anyone else realize you can get an iPhone for $99 and be required to pay for a data plan? I would rather have an iPhone. Actually I would rather have an iPhone on the Verizon network. Then I would be ephing happy. #htcdroideris
@wkm001: Wait so your argument is that I can get a one year old phone with less features, less (theoretical) storage and a crappier network yet pay the same price up front and monthly?
@tande04: Oddly enough my wife loves the Droid and will be getting it. I'm sticking with my work BBerry. Just so you know I'm not an Apple fanboy. #htcdroideris
So the upgrade to 2.0 will be downloadable? I don't want to buy this phone if HTC will come out with another 2.0 phone for Verizon a month later! #htcdroideris
@Samantha Buck: It will probably be OTA, not a download, but yes, it will be an upgrade, not a new phone. Those days are gone. Now you'll actually pay for bumps in specs as it should be. #htcdroideris
@tande04: I was just gonna ask that. The review makes it sound like you're stuck with 1.5, but I was just thinking why wouldn't you be able to upgrade the OS? I just didn't want to look like I didn't know anything even though I don't, heh.
@maven2k: HTC has already announced 2.0 for the hero (and assumedly the hero variants).
It could end up being a carrier issue. Maybe sprint will get the push and VZW won't but I don't think so.
Regardless one of the benefits of android is that the whole root thing is pretty simple. Its not that hard to get any version any time you want it. #htcdroideris
@maven2k: "HTC told me they'll upgrade to 2.0 once they've worked out all the bugs between 2.0 and Sense." So, looks that there's a possibility for 2.0 on newer HTC fones. Seems that there are a couple of engineering gaps between HTC's stuff and 2.0's architecture. #htcdroideris
This is what I love about Android. Make the handset manufacturer's compete to differentiate and offer different features. Fore example, my wife would like this phone because she's not big on physical keyboards, it's sleek and attractive, and the interface is nice.
Me, I'd like the Droid for it's gi-normous screen and (slightly) faster processor. We can have basically the same functionality with the features we'd like. #htcdroideris
@OCEntertainment: I appreciate the sentiment, but I think the whole robot-death-from-above ad is awesome.
@Dabogimp: Actually I'm still holding off. Our contract isn't up until either December or February, and at the rate these phones are coming out, even the Droid would be stale by then.
I'm looking forward to something with a huge screen, a snapdragon, 2.0 (or 2.5?), multitouch, and a physical keyboard. #htcdroideris
Data is data; why charge extra just because it has a better/different OS? I had a Nokia 6555 and then an HTC FUZE. Another family member has an iPhone 3G. We're in an EDGE area. With the 6555 on $10 Family Data, I was pulling ~50-60 MB a month while the iPhone was using all of 30 MB. With my FUZE I'm pulling ~100 MB a month and still wasting $30/mo on the same, useless PDA Personal plan. #htcdroideris
@dragon: ONE: Well, I guess for these devices it makes sense. I was asking because on T-Mobile the G1/MyTouch requires an expensive data plan (well, it's $25/mo), but a "dumbphone" can get an internet plan for $10/mo, because, I'm guessing, they're assuming you'll use the internet less.
Though I'm on an iPhone with the 5.99 plan :D And I also have the TM506 to tether 3G data with...for 5.99/mo...
@MrBlahBlah: Don't get too excited. Rumors have floated around that it will have either Android 1.5 or 1.6. Given that this falls under HTC's Sense group, it'll probably lag a bit behind.
I am happy that Verizon is offering a phone for the poorer masses. Maybe this one will only be $200.00 for existing subscribers with no discounts. #htcdroideris

After paying $100/mo for service, why would you not pay an extra Benji up front and get the Droid?
Too many devices leads to failure imo! (this is moot if the plans are different - those monthly savings are what really adds up!) #htcdroideris
